Shaykh ‘Uthaimīn (رَحِمَهُ اللهُ) quoted the following statement from Ibn al-Jawzi (رَحِمَهُ اللهُ) about the Hellfire:
“An abode whose
inhabitants have been designated to be in a state of remoteness. They have been
denied the pleasure of hope and happiness. The brightness of their faces has
been replaced with darkness. They are beaten
with rods that are mightier than mountains. In charge of it [Hell] are
stern and severe angels. If you could see them when they’re departing to the
scalding water. And when they’re being flung into the severe frost. And so
their grief is ongoing, thus they’re never rejoicing. Their home is inescapable;
thus they cannot get out. For ever and ever. In charge of it [Hell] are stern
and severe angels. They’re crying for having wasted their youth. Whenever the
crying becomes more painstaking, it increases. In charge of it [Hell] are stern
and severe angels. What an ordeal for them for their great crimes! What a
public disgrace for them in front of creation! Witnessed by everyone! Where
have their earnings from the ruined world gone? Where has their pursuit for sins gone? It’s as though it [the world]
was just muddled dreams. Then those bodies are burnt. And every time they are
burnt, they are restored. In charge of it [Hell] are stern and severe angels.”
