Ibn Baaz: “It is to be left. Takbeer in unison chorus is a bid’ah.”

 "Some people—May Allāh grant them rightness—extend the ‘Eid greetings a day or more before, or on the night of the ‘Eid. However, what has been narrated from the Righteous Predecessors is that they would extend ‘Eid greetings on the day of the ‘Eid, and there is no doubt that their practice is that which is most beloved to all."

Some Rulings Pertaining to Ṣalāt al-Eid

بـسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

1. One should prepare for it by bathing, wearing  one’s best clothing and perfuming oneself.

2. It is Sunnah to eat dates before Eid al-Fitr prayer – as for Eid al-Aḍḥā then it is Sunnah to eat after the prayer.

3. It is Sunnah to make the takbir from when an individual leaves his home and he should raise his voice with it. As for women, they pronounce it silently.

4. It is Sunnah to go out to Ṣalāt al-Eid via walking.

5. It is Sunnah that one leaves Ṣalāt al-Eid via a path other than  the path they came from.

6. It is legislated to pray Ṣalāt al-Eid after sunrise when the sun rises to the length of a spear above the horizon.

7. There is no adhān or iqāmah for Ṣalāt al-Eid.

8. If Eid day falls on Jumu’ah then Jumu’ah is not obligatory upon the one who prayed Ṣalāt al-Eid.

9. It is recommended to make up Ṣalāt al-Eid  with its description for the  one who  missed it with the Muslims.

10. There is no problem with people visiting  each other and saying  to each other “taqabbal Allāh minnā wa minkum – may Allah accept from us and you.”

11. The day of Eid is the day of happiness.

12. Beware, my Muslim brother, of falling into that  which opposes  the Sharī’ah (i.e. sins, innovation, etc).

When to Bath

A man once asked ‘Alî  – Allâh be pleased with him – about taking a full bath (ghusl). He replied, “Wash every day if you want.” The man said, “No, what I mean is the ghusl.” ʿAli replied, “Al-Jumu’ah (Friday), the Day of ‘Arafah, the Day of Al-Nahr (sacrificial slaughter, ‘Eid al-Adhâ) and the Day of Al-Fitr (the ‘Eid following Ramadân).”

Al-Bayhaqî, Al-Sunan Al-Kubrâ, hadîth #6343. In Irwâ Al-Ghalîl, under hadîth #146, Shaykh Al-Albânî graded its chain of transmission sahîh and said this is the best evidence for the recommendation to bath on the two ‘Eid celebrations.

WHAT IS THE WORDING OF THE ‘EID TAKBEER AND IS IT DONE IN UNISON

Question: May Allaah treat you well.A message has come from thequestioner Ridaa ‘Umar, saying: Is the Takbeer on ‘Eid Al-Fitr and ‘Eid Al-Ad’haa after the prayers done in unison or individually? And what is the legislated wording which has come for the Takbeer?

Answer: The Takbeer is on the night of ‘Eid Al-Fitr up until the Imaam comes (to lead the prayer). Its description is that one says:

الله أكبر الله أكبر،لا إله إلا الله، الله أكبر الله أكبر ولله الحمد

Allaahu Akbar, Allaahu Akbar, Laa Ilaha Illa-Allaah; Allaahu Akbar, Allaahu Akbar, Wa Lillaahil-Hamd 

Or he says:

الله أكبر الله أكبرالله أكبر،لا إله إلا الله، الله أكبر الله أكبرالله أكبر ولله الحمد

Allaahu Akbar, Allaahu Akbar, Allaahu Akbar Laa Ilaha Illa-Allaah; Allaahu Akbar, Allaahu Akbar, Allaahu Akbar, Wa Lillaahil-Hamd 

Or that he says:

الله أكبر الله أكبرالله أكبر،لا إله إلا الله، الله أكبر الله أكبر ولله الحمد

Allaahu Akbar, Allaahu Akbar, Allaahu Akbar Laa Ilaha Illa-Allaah; Allaahu Akbar, Allaahu Akbar, Wa Lillaahil-Hamd

This affair is broad. It begins, on ‘Eid Al-Fitr- as I said – from the setting of the sun on the night of ‘Eid (and extends) up until the Imaam comes.

As for  ‘Eid Al-Ad’haa, the Takbeer is from the entrance of the month of Dhul-Hijjah up until the last of the days of At-Tashreeq. However, it is not legislated on the day of the ‘Eid while the Imaam is delivering the sermon.This is because the people are commanded to listen to the sermon.

As for congregational Takbeer in unison, this is not from the Sunnah. Rather, everyone is to make the Takbeer individually. With this Takbeer, it is legislated for the men to raise their voices with it. As for the women, they are not to raise their voices; neither in the house nor in the market places. The woman should not raise her voice with it; however, if she is within the house and it makes her more active to say it audibly, then there is no harm.

Showing Happiness on 'Īd

Al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajr, may Allāh have mercy on him, said:

Showing happiness on ‘Īd [days] is from the appointed signs [of obedience to Allāh] in the religion [of Islām].
