The eclipse is not a punishment; rather it is as the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “Allah frightens His slaves with it”. Thus it is a threat of punishments and evil that will afflict them if they oppose His command and disobey Him.

The Jews assembling in Palestine  is a sign of the Day of Judgment Explained by Shaykh Salih Fawzan

Shaykh Salih Fawzan:

The Jews assembling in Palestine  is from the signs of the Hour (Day of Judgment). They will assemble  during the last days in Palestine awaiting the antichrist. The antichrist will emerge from their midst  and Jesus (peace be upon him) will descend and kill him. Thus, their assembling in Palestine is from the signs of the Day of Judgment.The Prophet  (peace be upon him) mentioned this.

A battle will erupt between them  and the Muslims in Palestine, fighting and a fierce battle will erupt between them . In the end the Muslims will be victorious over them and conquer them.

Now the preliminaries and signs have begun. They are gathering from the corners of the world and assembling in Palestine. This is from the signs  of the Day  of Judgment. This is the prelude for the battle that will ensue, and the prelude for the  appearance of the antichrist,because they are awaiting the antichrist. They are waiting for the antichrist because the antichrist is from them. And with Allah refuge is sought. He will emerge from among the Jews.The Jews will follow him.

These are from the intermediate signs, as for the major signs they will occur during the last days. The major  signs are the appearance of the antichrist and the descending of the Messiah (peace be upon him) from the heavens, and his killing the antichrist. And he (Jesus) will rule according  to the laws of Islam. Then Gog and Magog will appear during their time. Then then sun will rise from the West. Then  the beast will emerge. All of these are from the major signs. When the first sign appears, the rest will follow. Then the hour will be established.

Allah is Oft-Forgiving Full of Love

Allah the Exalted said:

وَهُوَ الْغَفُورُ الْوَدُودُ 

And He is Oft-Forgiving, Full of love (Soorah Al Burûj 85:14)

Imam as-Sa’di said: The subtly for “Full of love” being coupled with “Oft-Forgiving” is to show the sinners if they repent to Allah, He will forgive them of their sins and He will love them. Those who say the repentant sinners are forgiven but the love does not return to them are incorrect.

You should love those who advise you

 

Shaykh Uthaymeen رحمه الله said:

Everyone who does you a favor – especially concerning the religion, advice, enjoining the good and forbidding the evil – then this necessitates from you, that you love him and show him love.

In contrast to what some of the people do now; if you enjoin them with good , prevent them from evil, or invite them to good, or direct them to guidance, then he may find in his heart hatred towards you. And this contradicts common sense and this contradicts the religion.

Impatience does not remove the difficulty

Shaykh Salih Fawzan said: The keys to happiness are three, as mentioned by Shaykh Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahab. 1. When the person is tested he is patient 2. When he is blessed he is grateful 3. When he sins he seeks forgiveness

When the person is tested he is patient with the decree of Allah. He does  not become despondent or angry. He knows that whatever befalls him is due to his sins.

وَمَا أَصَابَكُم مِّن مُّصِيبَةٍ فَبِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَيَعْفُو عَن كَثِيرٍ (30)

And whatever of misfortune befalls you, it is because of what your hands have earned. And He pardons much. (Soorah Ahsh-Shûraa 42:30)

Therefore he takes himself to account and rectifies his actions and as a result his calamity becomes a benefit for him and a wake-up call.

This is in contrast to the person who when tested becomes despondent and angry. His impatience does not save him from the calamity nor does it allow him to reap the reward of patience. Thus he loses on both fronts.

Question: Is it authentic, that it is correct for us to say, Bismillah (In the Name of Allah) when pouring hot water in the sewage in order that we don’t burn the Jinn in the sewage?

Shaykh Zaid Al Madkhali:

Answer: At any rate; don’t pour hot water, don’t pour it in the sewage nor on the earth, don’t pour hot water. Because the earth is filled with inhabitants, so it is possible that it could fall upon the race of the Jinn or upon their young ones causing some of them to take revenge, consequently possessing the person. For this reason if someone wants to pour hot water let him cool it down with (cool) water until it becomes cold and is no longer harmful, then pour it in the sewage or somewhere else.

Loving to Look at Impermissible Pictures is Shirk of Desire

Explained by Shaykh Fawzan

بـسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Question: Noble Shaykh, may Allah grant you success. Is loving to look at impermissible pictures which appear on the cell phones and internet, and always desiring this; considering as Shirk, in which the person is a slave to these pictures?

Shaykh Fawzan: Yes. It is Shirk of desire. It is Shirk of desire because he craves these pictures, thus they take hold of his heart, consequently he pursues them. This is a type of minor Shirk.

Question: The follow up question, may Allah preserve you, what is your advice with regards to a successful remedy for the individual who has been tested with this?

Shaykh Fawzan: To stay far away from looking at these pictures, wherever they may be. Stay far away from looking at them.

قُل لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَغُضُّواْ مِنْ أَبْصَارِهِمْ

“Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things)” (Soorah An-Nūr 24:30)

Therefore, he lowers his gaze and he does not look at these things.

إِنَّ السَّمْعَ وَالْبَصَرَ وَالْفُؤَادَ كُلُّ أُولَٰئِكَ كَانَ عَنْهُ مَسْئُولًا (٣٦)

“Verily, the hearing, and the sight, and the heart, of each of those you will be questioned.” (Soorah Al-‘Isrā’ 17:36)

You will be questioned about your sight (what you looked at) and your hearing and your heart.

Shaykh Fawzan: As for the disbeliever, the punishment of the grave will not be interrupted for him. Thus, he will remain in the punishment of the grave. And yet, he will wish to remain in the grave because the Hellfire is more severe than this punishment. He will say, ‘O my Lord do not establish the Hour¹!’ The disbeliever and the hypocrite will say, ‘O my Lord do not establish the Hour’ (meaning the Day of Judgment). They will wish to remain in the grave and remain patient with the punishment of the grave because it is less severe than the punishment of the Hellfire. And with Allah refuge is sought.

Shaykh Abdur Razzaq al-Badr

Taken from a Friday sermon entitled

لايرجو عبد إلا ربه ولا يخاف إلا ذنبه / للشيخ عبدالرزاق  العباد البدر حفظه الله

The slave only places his hope in Allah and he only fears his sins

O slaves of Allah, when the slave has these attributes, meaning he only places his hope in Allah, and he only fears his sins then his life, all of it, will be established around obedience and righteous deeds and staying far away from sins, and actualizing the Tawheed of Allah the Exalted.

Beware O slaves of Allah, beware that your only portion of this is a mere claim and statement. And the people may fall into this knowingly and unknowingly.

Imam Ahmad narrated in his book Zuhud that Muawiyah ibn Qurah said:

“I entered upon Muslim ibn Yasar and said to him ‘I do not have any major good deeds, but I place my hope in Allah and I fear Him’.”

Muslim ibn Yasar responded: “Ma-sha Allah, whoever fears something, he is cautious of it, and whoever hopes for something, he seeks for it. And I don’t know; what is the value of an individual’s fear if when desires are presented to him, he does not abandon them due to what he fears? Or when he is tested with a calamity, he is not patient due to what he hopes for?”

Muawiyah said: “I ascribed purity to myself, while I was not aware of it.”

Innovators are like scorpions

Explained by Shaykh Fawzan

Question: The questioner says: What is the meaning of the statement from some of the Salaf: The innovators are like the scorpion, he buries his head while leaving his tail out, such that when he is able to, he stings?

Shaykh Fawzan: Yes. This speech is clear. The people of innovation have with them hypocrisy. The people of innovation have been afflicted with hypocrisy. And it is that they display good while they hide evil, they display good to the people as a way of deception.

يُخَادِعُونَ اللهَ وَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا

They try to deceive Allah and those who believe… (Soorah Al-Baqarah 2:9)

And they conceal the evil. And when they have the ability to spread evil, they spread it, just like the scorpion.

Listening attentively as they tell the same story for the 50^th time

Shaykh Muhammad Ghalib said: Allah the Exalted said:

إِمَّا يَبْلُغَنَّ عِندَكَ الْكِبَرَ أَحَدُهُمَا أَوْ كِلَاهُمَا فَلَا تَقُل لَّهُمَا أُفٍّ وَلَا تَنْهَرْهُمَا وَقُل لَّهُمَا قَوْلًا كَرِيمًا (٢٣

If one of them or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect, nor shout at them but address them in terms of honor. (Soorah Al-Isrā’ 17:23)

At this age your parents are in the most need of you being sociable and friendly with them and listening to them. Enjoy sitting with them and don’t become bored with their speech. Don’t say: “This is the same old story. I’ve heard this story tens of times before!” Rather; listen to them as though you are hearing this story for the first time.

They used to listen to you when you were young and your speech was indecipherable. And that made them happy. And you were not even saying anything. Thus it is from kindness to them that you listen to them, enjoy their speech and openly display your happiness. Do this before you lose them; either by your departure or theirs. Be sociable and friendly with your fathers be sociable and friendly with your mothers. Sit with them, take them by the hand, listen to them; be kind to them. This is an obligation upon us. This is from their rights. This matter is not just something preferred.

Question: If the person repents and returns to his Lord after having left off the prayer, is it upon him to pronounce the Shahada (testimony of faith) again, and to take a ghusul (ritual shower for purification)?

Shaykh Uthaymeen: If the person who did not pray repents to Allah the Exalted and begins to pray again, then he will be a Muslim due to his prayer; because the person who becomes a disbeliever due to leaving something, he becomes a Muslim when begins to perform this action. And in this very prayer he will say, ‘I bear witness that nothing has the right to be worshipped except for Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and messenger.

As for taking the ghusul, then this is based upon the view that the ghusul is an obligation when the disbelievers enters into Islam. Thus those who say that when the disbeliever enters into Islam the ghusul is an obligation upon him they hold the view that the person who begins to pray again must make ghusul. As for those who say that it is not obligatory for the disbeliever who enters into Islam to make ghusul, they say it is not obligatory for this person to make ghusul. And there is no doubt that it is better for the person to make ghusul as to exit from the difference of opinion between the scholars and to free himself from blame.

Calling the common person “Shaykh”

Questioner: Is it correct to apply the term ‘Shaykh’ to everyone from amongst the people? Especially since this term has become widely used, so we hope for some clarity in this.

Shaykh Uthaymeen: The term ‘Shaykh’ in the Arabic language is not used except upon the kabeer (elder), either due to their  being elder in age, or senior due to the level of knowledge they possess, or due to his wealth, and what is similar to this; and it is not applied to the sagheer (little one, i.e.: little in age, knowledge, etc.) But as you have stated, it has become  widespread now such that the ignorant person  or the one who doesn’t know anything is referred to as ‘Shaykh’; and this in my view is not befitting.

Because if you applied to this person the term ‘Shaykh’ and his is ignorant and doesn’t know, the people will be  deceived by him. And they will think he has some knowledge with him , and they will consult him for fatwas (Islamic rulings) and other than that, and a great harm will result because of this.

And many of the people – we ask Allah to guide us  and to guide them – they don’t mind to give a fatwa if they are asked, even if they answer without knowledge. Because he thinks that if he says, “I don’t know” this will decrease his status. But in reality if the person says about that which he does not know, “I don’t know”, then that is the completeness of his status. But the souls are accustomed to want to impress  others, except those whom Allah the Mighty and Majestic protects from this. So what I see is that the term ‘Shaykh’ is not applied except to those that deserve it, either by his age, or by his nobility, or due to sovereignty over his people, or because of his knowledge.

And in a like fashion some of the people apply the term ‘Imam’ to the common scholars, even if this scholar is from the blind followers: they say he is an ‘Imam’. And this also is not befitting; it’s befitting that the term ‘Imam’ should not be applied except on the one, who deserves to be an ‘Imam’, and he has followers, and his statements are held in high regard amongst the Muslims.

And finally, you gave the salaams as did the brother before you when you wanted to ask a question, and this is not from the Sunnah. Because the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, when they wanted to present a question to the Messenger of Allah peace and blessings are upon him, they would not give him the salaams except for the one who was arriving at the sitting; this is the one who would give the salaams.
