The Cure To Deficiency Lies in Tawheed - Ibn Taymiyyah

 Shaykh Al-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah said:

So whoever perceives (from himself) deficiency (shortcomings) in his speech or actions or his condition or his sustenance or a change of heart, then he should holdfast to tawheed and seeking forgiveness, for in them is the cure.

Al-Fataawaa 11/698.

TRAITS OF THE ALLIES OF ALLAH IMAAM ATH-THAHABI

Ath-Thahabi may Allah have mercy on him said:

Guarding the tongue, and the constant pursuance of the remembrance (of Allah), and leaving off intermingling with the laymen, and crying because of sins, and the recitation of the Quraan with beautification and pondering (upon its meanings), and detesting the soul and blaming it for the sake of Allah

and increasing in the legislated fasting, and consistency upon the night prayer, and showing humility towards the Muslims and connecting the ties of relation between the family, and pardoning, and an abundance of smiling and spending in times of poverty

and the statement of bitter truth with gentleness and deliberateness, and commanding with good, and pardoning and turning away from the ignorant, and guarding the post, and fighting the enemy, and making the pilgrimage to the House, and eating the good and wholesome (halaal) at all times, and the abundance of seeking forgiveness in the last portion of the night (before fajr)

These are the traits of the allies (of Allah) and the characteristics of the followers of Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.

May Allah cause us to die upon loving them.

I seek refuge with Allah from the companionship of those who are idle and have nothing better to do.

Ibn Al-Jawzi (597 h) may Allah have mercy on him said:

I seek refuge with Allah from the companionship of those who are idle and have nothing better to do. Verily I have seen occurring to me from a lot of people, that which many have become accustomed to, from the abundance of visiting. And they call these frequent (visits) a service. Requesting to sit, and mentioning the statements of the people and that which does not concern, and this is mixed up with back biting.

And this is something many of the people of our time do…

Since I know that time is the most noble of things, and what is obligatory is to seize it (take advantage of it) by doing good, I disliked that (i.e. frequent visits).

Then I have made as a preparation for their meetings, papers to cut and pencils to sharpen and notebooks to bind. Verily these things are a must, and they do not require thinking or the presence of the heart. So I have set them aside for the times when they visit, so that none of my time is wasted.

Tremendous Advice

Tremendous Advice:

Al-Haafith Ibn Jamaa’ah said, may Allah have mercy on him:

“It is befitting for the student of knowledge to not associate except with one whom he benefits or is benefitting from,

So if he is exposed to the companionship of one whom he wastes his time with and he does not benefit him or benefit from him, and does not help him with what he is attempting to achieve,

Then he should kindly cut ties with him from the beginning of the affair before it becomes established. Verily, affairs, if they become established, it is difficult to remove them.

So if he is need of someone to accompany, then he should be a righteous, religious, pious, intelligent companion.

Having an abundance of good, a small amount of evil, good manners and little argumentation,

If he forgot, he would remind him. If he remembered, he would assist him, and if he was in need  he would support him, and if he was irritated he would try to comfort him.”

“Whoever innovates an innovation…”

Al-Awzaa’ee said:

“It has reached me that whoever innovates an innovation, shaytaan beautifies for him devotion and worshipAnd throws upon him humility and crying so that he can be used as a trap.”

I happened to ride a boat with Ahmad and he would remain silent for a long time...

Talhah bin Ubaid Allah Al-Baghdaadi said, may Allah have mercy on him:

I happened to ride a boat with Ahmad and he would remain silent for a long time.If he spoke he would say: O' Allah cause us to die upon Islaam and the Sunnah.
