Islam demolishes all the previous evil deeds and so do migration (for Allâh's sake) and Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah). [Al-Lu'Lu' Wal-Marjan, vol. 1, Chapter 52, Page 205]

Narrated Ibn Abbas  رضي الله عنهما : Some pagans who committed murders in great number and committed illegal sexual intercourse excessively, came to Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم and said: O Muhammad! Whatever you say, and invite people to, is good, but we wish if you could inform  us whether we can make an expiation for our (past evil) deeds. So the Divine verses came: Those who invoke not with Allah any other god, nor kill such person as Allah forbidden except for just cause, nor commit illegal sexual intercourse.(V. 25:68)… Except those who repent… (V. 25:70).*

And there was also revealed: Say: O My slaves who have transgressed against their ownselves! (by committing sins), despair not of the Mercy of Allah. (V. 39:53).* (Sahīh Al-Bukhârī, Vol. 6, Hadīth No. 334)

The Distinguishing Signs of Ahl al-Bid’ah – (The People of Innovation)

The Distinguishing Signs of Ahl al-Bidah – (The People of Innovation)1

Abū ʿUthmān al-Sābūnī (d. 449H) (رَحِمَهُ اللهُ) said:

And the characteristics [resulting] from [the effects of] innovations  upon their people are obvious and manifestly clear. The most apparent of their signs and characteristics is the severity of their enmity and hatred towards the carriers of the narrations of the Prophet (صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ), their disdain of them, their scorn of them [considering them to be valueless] and naming them with ashawiyyah (Worthless People), Jahalah (the Ignorant), āhiriyyah (Literalists), and the Mushabbihah (those who liken  Allāh to the creation). [And this], due to their belief [concerning] the  narrations of the Prophet (صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ),  that they are devoid of any knowledge and that the [real] knowledge is that which Shayān throws at them  from the results of their corrupt intellects, the dark whisperings of their chests [i.e. souls], the false notions  of their  hearts [which are] empty of any goodness, their words and proofs which are devoid of truth and their unjustified and futile doubts.

Random Quote of the Day

IMAAM AS-SA’DI (رحمه الله)

AS IT IS NOT POSSIBLE FOR AN INDIVIDUAL TO BE KIND TO ALL PEOPLE WITH THEIR WEALTH AT ALL TIMES, ALLAH HAS ENJOINED KINDNESS THAT ONE MAY DO TO ALL OTHERS, NAMELY KINDNESS IN WORDS. THAT ALSO IMPLIES THAT IT IS PROHIBITED TO SAY BAD WORDS TO PEOPLE, EVEN THE DISBELIEVERS. HENCE ALLAH (تعالى) SAYS:

وَلَا تُجَادِلُوا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ إِلَّا بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ

“AND DO NOT ARGUE WITH THE PEOPLE OF THE SCRIPTURE EXCEPT IN A WAY THAT IS BEST..”

Five Essential Qualities of a Mufti

Five Essential Qualities of a Mufti

Ibn Battah records that Imām Ahmad – Allāh have mercy on him – said:

No man should appoint himself to issue verdicts (fatwa) until and unless he fulfills five characteristics:

First, he should have a [firm and good] intention; for if he does not, he will have no light upon him, and nor will his words.

Second, he should be forbearing, tranquil and serene.

Third, he should be strong upon what he is involved in, strong in its knowledge.

Fourth, he should have sufficient means (wealth), otherwise the people will chew him up.

Fifth, he should know people and their ways.

Ibn Battah, Ibtāl Al-Hiyal p24.

After quoting this statement, and before his commentary on it, Ibn Al-Qayyim states:

This is one of the proofs of the eminence of Imām Ahmad and his lofty status in knowledge and insight; for these five are the pillars of fatwā, and to the extent that there is deficiency in any of them, to that extent faults will appear in the mufti.

A few extract…

Ishāq Ibn Rāhooyah (d. 238) said: “Ahmad Ibn Hanbal is a proof between Allah and His servants in this world.” And as for Qutaibah Ibn Sa’eed Al-Baghlānee (d. 240), the Hāfidh, then his speech is extensive regarding Ahmad (rahimahullāh). He would say: “Ahmad is the Imām of the world.” On an occasion, he mentioned a group of the Tābi’een and mentioned Imām Ahmad along with them. So someone asked him: “You include Ahmad in your mention of the Tābi’een?” He responded: “Yes, amongst the greater Tābi’een!” So not only is he mentioned in the ranks of the Tābi’een but in the ranks of the greater Tābi’een! On another occasion, he said: “If Ahmad Ibn Hanbal had reached back into the era of Sufyān Ath-Thawree (d. 161H), Al-Awzā’ee (d. 157H), Mālik (d. 179H) and Layth Ibn Sa’d (d. 175), he would have given precedence.” He also stated: “There is none who can be mentioned alongside Ahmad.” Meaning that when you mention Ahmad as a scholar, then mention him on his own [due to his level in knowledge and understanding, bravery and steadfastness]. He also commented: “If it was not for Ahmad, piety would have died out for there was none greater than Ahmad who served all of the Muslims. And it is a duty upon every Muslim to seek forgiveness for him.”

Being Righteous Is A Reason For Your Children To Be Protected By Allāh

Imām As-Sadee رحمه الله stated:

Allāh will protect the righteous servant himself & will safeguard his children.

[Tayseer Al-Kareem Ar-Rahmaan fee Tafseer Kalaam al-Mannān, 3/979, Dār ibn al-Jawzee print]

Translated by Markaz Mu'aadh bin Jabal Islamic Centre

If you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) covet for their guidance, then verily Allâh guides not those whom He makes to go astray (or none can guide him whom Allâh sends astray). And they will have no helpers. ( Surah 16: 37)

إِن تَحْرِصْ عَلَىٰ هُدَاهُمْ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِي مَن يُضِلُّ ۖ وَمَا لَهُم مِّن نَّاصِرِينَ (37)

(V. 16: 37) Narrated Abû Hurairah  :رضي الله عنه I heard Allâh’s Messenger  صلى الله عليه وسلم  saying, My example and the example of the people is that of a man who made a fire, and when it lighted what was around it, moths and other insects started falling into the fire. The man tried (his best) to prevent them, (from falling in the fire) but they overpowered him and rushed into the fire. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم added; Now, similarly, I take hold of the knots at your waist (belts) to prevent you from falling into the fire, but you insist on falling into it.* (Sahīh Al-Bukhârī, Vol. 8, Hadīth No. 490).

* The fire symbolizes the unlawful deeds which the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم warned the people of.

There are two blessings in which many people incur loss

 -----

the Prophet (may Allah raise his rank and grant him peace) stressed its importance, saying:

(( نِعْمَتَانِ مَغْبُونٌ فِيهِمَا كَثِيْـرٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ: الصِّحَّةُ وَالفَرَاغُ ))

Two blessings are neglected by many of the people: good health and free time. [2]

The Distinction of Imam Bukhari (Rahimahullaah)

Sincerity in worldly Affairs

Bukharis son sent him some merchandise to sell and some businessmen requested to buy it for five thousand Dirhams, so Bukhari said:

Leave it tonight.

The next day some other businessmen came and requested to buy it for ten thousand, so Bukhari said to them:

Indeed I had made the intention to sell it to those who came last night and I do not love to change my intention.
