Random Quote of the Day

Sh ibn Uthaimeen rahimahullah said there is no harm for a person to read 1 juzz, half a juzz  or 2 or 3 juzz a day in and outside Ramadan. Don’t say bidah rather this is being organised as I am not intending to get closer to Allah by the number but by the recitation.

Hafsah bint Sīrīn said, “Fasting is a protection (similar to a protective covering), so long as the fasting person does not tear it (the covering) and it’s tearing is backbiting”...

7895- Abdur Razzaq [narrated] on the authority of Hishām [bin Hassān], on the authority of Hafsah bint Sīrīn, on the authority of Abil-Āliyah [Al-Barrā’], who said:

“The fasting person is in state of worship aslong as he does not backbite (i.e. eat the flesh of) anybody, and he is in this state of worship even if he is sleeping on his bed”.

Hafsah used to say:

“Oh how nice that would be, to be in a state of worship while I am sleeping on my bed”.

Hishām said: And Hafsah said,

“Fasting is a protection (similar to a protective covering), so long as the fasting person does not tear it (the covering) and it’s tearing is backbiting”.

What does it mean to be pious?

Translated by Markaz Muaadh Ibn Jabal
23 August 2018 – 9:31 AM

Aboo Yazeed al-Bistāmee رحمه الله said:

The pious individual is the one when he speaks, he speaks sincerely for Allaah, and when he acts, he acts sincerely for Allaah.

[Tafseer al-Qurtubee 1/249, Resalah Publishers, 1st edition]

What Is The Scale By Way of Which You Judge? By Al-Allaamah Muqbil Bin Haadee

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Al-Allaamah Muqbil Bin Haadee Al-Waadi’ee [rahimahullaah] said:

If numbers is the scale by way of which you judge, then the majority are mostly blameworthy; and if persuasive speech and eloquence is the scale by way of which you judge, then indeed Allaah described the Munaafiqoon that they have tongues that utter beautiful speech. Allaah said:

وَإِن يَقُولُوا تَسْمَعْ لِقَوْلِهِمْ

And when they speak, you listen to their words.

[Surah  Al- Munaafiqoon. Aayah  4]

Therefore, what is given consideration is that one knows the people of truth by their characteristics – that they call to the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of Allaah’s Messenger [peace be upon him, his family and companions], and they neither desire reward from the people nor seeking to be  thanked.

Hadith: "Whoever dies while still invoking anything other than Allâh..."

Narrated ‘Abdullâh رضى الله عنه: “The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said one statement and I said another. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم  said:  'Whoever dies while still invoking anything other than Allâh as a rival to Allâh, will enter Hell (Fire).’ And I said, “Whoever dies without invoking anything as a rival to Allâh, will enter Paradise.'

The Obstacles and Barriers to Acquiring Knowledge

Shaykh Rabee Bin Haadi Al-Madkhalee [hafidhahullaah] said:

One of the obstacles that prevents people from [acquiring] knowledge is [when they] turn to the knowledge of the Asaaghir [the small ones] – and Allaah’s refuge is sought. And from the [minor] signs of the hour [i.e the day of judgement] is that knowledge will be acquired from the young in age, who learn very little and thus considers himself as an Aalim!

This person is young and a Miskeen [i.e. lacking strength in the field of knowledge], but considers himself as one who has reached the highest level; so the ignoramuses come to him, gather around him and cut off from the scholars – and Allaah’s refuge is sought. This is one of the [minor] signs and portents of the hour, when the people abandon the senior scholars and embark upon acquiring knowledge from the ignorant young ones – those who pretend to be scholars. This is a calamity. Ibn Mas’ood [radiyallaahu- anhu] said: The people will not cease to be upon good as long as they acquire knowledge from their elder, trustworthy ones and scholars.

Contemplate on this statement, And if they acquire knowledge from their young ones, they will be destroyed – This is one of the obstacles and barriers to acquiring knowledge. It may be that some people desire knowledge, but he [i.e. an individual] becomes deceived by that young person and considers him to be the most knowledgeable of people. And had he gone to other than that young person, he would find that it is obligated on that young person to seek knowledge together with him, and sit down in the presence of the scholars.

The students of knowledge must think carefully and should direct their attention towards the senior scholars – the possessors of vast knowledge, those whose lives have been spent in seeking knowledge and its dessimination, and are possessors of experience [in many affairs]. They will give you – in one sitting- that which you cannot attain in a year.

They will give you the [required and precise] summary of knowledge, which if you and your young Shaikh were to look for, you will not reach it. This [i.e. abandoning the scholars and their knowledge and clinging to the young ones] is also an obstacle faced by the students of knowledge, so one should beware of it.

Random Quote of the Day

Imaam ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:

Perhaps one sin will be the cause for long term sadness.

[Al-Fawaaid pg. 217, Dār ‘Aalim al-Fawaaid print, 2nd edition]

Insincerity is a cause of confusion when Fitan and Trials strike. The Insincere Heart may follow Desires, Doubts, the Shaytān, it seeks Position and may fall into Shirk! So do not let those who have been striken with this sickness divert you from gaining the pleasure of Allah!

Ibn al Qayyim beautifully illustrates the example of trees in the heart
So oh possessor of a heart! Grow your tree on a ground fed with the love of your creator & seeking his pleasure!

And know that bitter fruits await the disobedient seekers of the pleasure of the creation!

Imām Ibn Al Qayyim Al Jawziyah – Rahimahullah – stated in his book of benefits, ‘Al-Fawāid’:

•The year is a tree, the months are its branches, the days are its smaller limbs or branches, the hours are its leaves and the breaths (that you take) are its fruits.

Whoever’s breaths are spent in obedience (to Allah) then the fruits of his tree will be good. And whoever’s breaths are spent in disobedience (to Allah) then his fruits will be bitter.

The time of harvest (of your fruits or rewards) will be the day of return (the day of judgement). At the time of harvest the sweet fruit  will become clear or distinct from the bitter fruit.

Sincerity and Tawhīd (Monotheism) is a tree in the heart, its branches are actions, and its fruits are a good existence in the Dunya (the world) and an everlasting bliss in the hereafter.

The fruits of Jannah (paradise) are not limited to seasons and their supply is never cut off, likewise the fruits of Tawhīd and sincerity in the Dunya are the same (i.e. they are never cut off).

Shirk (polytheism), lies and Riyā’ (showing off ones actions of worship to the people) is a tree in the heart, the fruit of which is fear, anxiety, distress or grief, tightening of the chest and  darkening of the heart.

Its fruit in the hereafter are Zaqqūm (the fruits  of its stalks are like  the heads  of devils) and an everlasting punishment.

And Allah has mentioned these two trees (the two trees that exist in the hearts, the tree of Tawhīd and the tree of Shirk) in Surah Ibrahīm.1

And on the Day when He will gather them together and that which they worship besides Allâh [idols, angels, pious men, saints]. He will say: “Was it you who misled these My slaves or did they (themselves) stray from the (Right) Path?” (Sûrah 25. Al-Furqân - Ayah 17)

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, To worship Him (Allâh) Alone and to join none in worship with Him (Allâh). Do you know what their right upon Him is? Discouraging from concentrating on satisfying the stomach

From Al-Miqdad bin Ma’d Yakrib  رضي الله عنه who said, ‘I heard the Messenger of Allaah saying:

“A human does not fill a more evil container than the stomach. It is sufficient for the son of Adam to eat small portions by which his back can remain straight. If it is not possible, then he should reserve his stomach, a third for his food, a third for his drink and a third for breathing.”

The Devil’s Plot - Taken from Ibn al-Qayyim's speech (رحمه الله)

The Devil’s Plot

The devil tries to lure the slave into his many traps. Anytime  one trap fails, he springs another trap. They are making the slave:

[1] Commit shirk, which is his ultimate objective
[2] Commit innovations
[3] Commit major sins
[4] Commit minor sins
[5] Continuously do unrewarding yet permissible acts, [like eating, drinking, sleeping, etc.]
[6] Do deeds that are less rewarding to prevent the slave from doing deeds that are more rewarding

If, however, the slave manages to evade entrapment, the devil then dispatches the people of innovation, falsehood and sins form his army to harm the slave and to prevent the people from benefiting from his knowledge and his da’wah.
