Only Allāh Deserves To Be Worshipped

Imām ‘Abd al-Ramān ibn Nāṣir al-Sa’dī said:

“If He alone is the Creator, Inventor of all things, and Bestower of forms, possessing no partner in any of these actions, then He is the only  deity worshipped in truth. There is none  besides Him deserving of any form of worship. For He is the creator of the essences, actions and attributes of His creation. He guides  whom He wills and sends astray whom He wills. He allows the believer to believe and the disbeliever to disbelieve, without forcing or compelling His servants to engage in that which is undesirable to them."

The Salaf and their fear of Allaah

 .....

Imām Amad Ibn Nar Al-Marwazi reported in Kitāb A-alāh (the Book of Prayer) that Abū Al-ʿĀliyah said, “The Prophet’s Companions used to think that no sin would harm a person who says ‘Lā ilāha illāllāh,’ just as no good deed would benefit a person who joins partners with Allāh. So Allāh  revealed,

Obey Allāh and obey the Messenger and do not invalidate your deeds.

This made them fear that some sins could nullify their deeds.”*

*Aṣ-alāh by Al-Marwazi 2:645.

The Excellence of As-Salāt (The Prayer)

 .....

Abū Hurairah رضي الله عنه reported: I heard the Messenger of Allāh  saying, “Say, if there were a river at the door of one of you in which he takes a bath five times a day, would any soiling remain on him?” They replied, “No soiling would left on him.” He said, “That is the five (obligatory) Salāt (prayers). Allāh obliterates all sins as a result of performing them.” [Al-Bukhārī and Muslim]

Commentary: This Hadīth tell us about the merit and benefits of the performance of the prescribed five daily Salāt, performing them will wash off one’s sins, but this is true of only such Salāt which is performed in accordance with Sunnah, i.e., punctually in exactly the manner showed by the Prophet , and not of that which is offered at will in one’s own way.

Every Good Upon the Earth is Due to the Tawheed of Allaah and Worship of Him and Obedience to His Messenger

-----

Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullaah) said:

Whoever reflects over the circumstances of the world, he will find that every goodness in the earth – its reason is the Tawheed of Allaah and worshipping Him and obedience to His Messenger, and that every evil in the world and tribulation and trial and drought and empowered supremacy of an enemy and other than that – its reason is opposing His Messenger and the call to other than Allaah and His Messenger. Likewise, whoever reflects over this in true reflection and contemplates over the circumstances of the world – from its inception until now; and up until Allaah reclaims the earth and those that are upon it, he will find this affair to be exclusively of relevance within himself as well as in the right of other than himself – in general and in particular.

A Du’ā concerning Faith

The Companion, ‘Abdullāh Ibn ‘Umar  رضي الله عنهما would say in his supplications:

اَللَّهُمَّ لا تَنْزِعْ مِنِّي الْإِيْمانَ كما أَعْطَيْتَهُ

Allāhumma lā tanzi’ minnil-eemāna  kamā a’aytahu

O Allāh! Do not remove  Eemān from me, as you  (are the One who) gave it.

Three things that will bring salvation

Ibn Jarīr recorded that Yazīd bin Abi Maryam said:

“Umar, may Allāh be pleased with him, passed by Mu’ādh bin Jabal and asked, ‘What is the foundation of this Ummah?’ Mu’ādh said, “Three things, and they are the things that will bring salvation: Al-Ikhlā(doing a deed for Allāh alone), which is the Firah with which Allāh created mankind; alāh, which is the thing that tells a believer apart from a disbeliever; and obedience, which is protection.’ ‘Umar said: ‘You have spoken the truth.”

The Meaning of Ibādah and Islām

The Meaning  of Ibādah and Islām

Ibn Kathīr (رَحِمَهُ اللهُ) said:

Ibādah is obedience to Allāh  by acting upon what He commands, abandoning what He forbids, and this is the reality and essence of Islām. And the meaning of Islām is: Istislām (submission and surrender) to Allāh (سُبحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) along with the utmost compliance, humility, and submissiveness to Him.”

Among the narrations which a Muslim should memorize and mention on a daily basis in order to be protected is:

 -----

ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān raiallāhu ʿanh said: The Messenger of Allāh āllallāhu ʿālayhi wa sallam stated: There is no servant who says each day in the morning and evening:

بِسْمِ اللهِ الَّذِي لاَ يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلاَ فِي السَّمَاءِ، وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ العَلِيمُ

In the Name of Allāh, in Whose Name nothing can harm on the earth or in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

3 times, except that he will not be afflicted with any harm.2

Shaykh ‘Abd al-Razzāq al-‘Abbād afthahullāh stated:

This is one of the tremendous supplications that a Muslim should regularly mention every morning and evening so that he may be protected – by the permission of Allāh – from being afflicted with unexpected harm, tragedy, or something similar.3

Calling the soul to account

Imām Ibn Al-Qayyim  (May Allāh have mercy upon him) said:

“Indeed, the soundness of the heart is (attained) by calling the soul to account; while it’s corruption is by neglecting it and allowing it to take pleasure freely.”

How divine remedies affect diseases

-----

The heart was created to acquire knowledge of its Creator and to love Him, worship Him Alone, be content with Him, to be joyous loving Him and to feel satisfied with Him. The heart was also created to rely on Allāh, to love fo His Sake, hate for His Sake, to be loyal for His Sake, to be enemies of His enemies for His Sake and to remember Him always. The heart was created to love Him more than anyone or anything else, to have Hope in Him rather than anyone or anything else and to revere Him more than anything or anyone else. There is no joy, happiness, delight or sweetness except by acquiring such qualities, which are just like food, good health and life for the heart. When the heart looses its food, health and life, then sadness, grief and affliction will attack it from all sides and will remain with it.

The worst diseases that attack the heart are Shirk (polytheism, making partners with Allāh), sins, and forgetfulness, ignoring what Allāh likes and is pleased with, abandoning relating all matters to Him and not depending on Him for everything. Diseases of the heart also include relying  on other than Allāh, rejecting His decisions and doubting and ignoring His warnings and promises.

When one thinks about the diseases of the heart, he will find that the reasons that we mentioned are the only ones behind these ills.

Abu Hurayrah – may Allah be pleased with him – narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

Abu Hurayrah – may Allah be pleased with him – narrated that the Messenger of Allah () said:

The Shaytaan ties three knots on the back of your neck when you sleep. For every knot, its intent is for you to have a long, slumber-some night, and it is said, ‘Sleep well’.

So, if he [or she] wakes up and mentions Allah, one knot is undone. When he [or she] makes wudhoo, a second knot is undone. When he [or she] prays, all the knots are undone, thus he [or she] enters into the morning energetic and in a wonderful mood. Otherwise, he [or she] enters the morning in a foul mood and lethargic.

The slave who knows that he will be questioned about what he says and does and about what he uses his limbs that Allāh has created to worship Him for, should prepare an answer to the questioning, and this can only be done by using them in worshipping Allāh, purifying the religion for Him (alone), and abstaining from what Allāh, the Most High, dislikes.
