Two Ugly Affairs

Shaykh Al-Islām Ibn Taymiyah, may Allāh have mercy upon him, said:

Amongst the people there is he who Hasad leads him to backbite. Thus, he combines two ugly affairs: backbiting and envy.

Why they Knowingly Reject the Truth

 

Shaykhul-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allāh have mercy upon him, said:

“A person may know that the truth is with someone else but in spite of this, he obstinately rejects it due to his envy of that person or due to him seeking to make himself uppermost over him or due to personal desires. And those desires lead him to transgress against him and reject what he is saying by any means (necessary) while within his heart he knows that the truth is with him.”

Kibr is a barrier to submission, Hasad is a barrier to accepting sincere advice & giving it, [uncontrolled] anger is a barrier to justice...

1: Kibr is a barrier to submission, Hasad is a barrier to accepting sincere advice & giving it, [uncontrolled] anger is a barrier to justice & [evil] desire  is a barrier to allocating time for dedication in worship.

2: When Kibr is removed, it becomes easy on a person to submit; when Hasad is removed, it becomes easy on him to accept sincere advice; when [uncontrolled] anger is removed, it becomes easy on him to be just & humble.

3: When [evil] desire is removed, it becomes easy on him to be patient, chaste & carry out acts of worship.

Ibn ‘Uthaymin: If you see envy from the people towards you, say:

حَسْبِي اللهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيل

Allāh (alone) is Sufficient for Me, and He is the Best Disposer of Affairs

From The Punishment of the Envious:To See Your Blessings Increase

Ibnul-Jawzi said:

“It is not proper that you should desire a punishment for the one who envies you beyond that (punishment) which he is already in. For indeed he is within a terrible perpetual affair. He will not be pleased until your blessing is removed and the more it (your blessing) increases the more his punishment increases; thus he has no life. The people of Paradise do not have a goodly life until envy and rancor is removed from their hearts. If it were not removed they would envy one another and their lives would be miserable.
