A Terrifying Punishment…

Don’t ever leave off the Prayer!

Al-Allāmah Rabee’ Ibn Hādee al-Madhkalee حفظه الله mentioned,

The one who refuses to pay Zakāt will be punished for a period of 50,000 years*, so how about the punishment for the one who does not pray?

The wisdom of giving Zakah and Sadaqah (voluntary charity) in Islam

The likeness of those who spend their wealth in the Way of Allâh, is as the likeness of a grain (of corn); it grows seven ears, and each ear has a hundred grains. Allâh gives manifold increase to whom He wills. (Surah 2. Al-Baqarah verse 261)

The wisdom of giving Zakah and Sadaqah (voluntary charity) in Islam is to make a Muslim feel bonded to their fellow Muslims by sharing their pain, distress and calamities, which cause the Muslims’ hearts to relent and act kindly toward them, and to donate from what Allah (Exalted be He) has bestowed upon them with a willing heart and soul that is assured with Iman (faith)...

Be careful who you give Zakaat to…

11 May 2019 – 5:20 AM

Shaykhul Islaam ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله stated,

As for Zakaat, then one should seek to give it to those who are deserving of it, from the poor, the needy, those in debt and other than them from the people of righteousness, who follow the Shareeah (Islamic rulings). As for he, who openly practices innovation or immoral acts, then indeed he deserves punishment, by boycotting him and other than that and should be called to repentance, so how can he be helped with Zakaat in that (innovation or sin)?!

Shaykh Fawzān: Giving charity to someone suspected to be on drugs & they pray

Shaykh Sālih Al-Fawzān (رحمه الله) was asked:

A poor man who is accused of using drugs, is it permissible for me to give him charity, bearing in mind that he prays?

He responded:

Give him charity, but advise him as well. Say to him: “Do not use this to buy drugs, I do not allow you to do this. Rather, you must spend it on your needs, poverty and children.”

Ruling on the Zakah on precious stones

Q: Is Zakah (obligatory charity) due on diamonds used for adornment?

A: There is no Zakah due on the diamond or pearls used for adornment. When they are used for trading purposes, it is obligatory  to pay Zakah on them. With regard to gold and silver, Zakah is obligatory on them  even if they are used for adornment when they reach the Nisab (the minimum amount on which Zakah is due).

“Seven Simple Points on Zakaat al-Fitr” Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan (Explanation of Buloogh al-Maraam)

Seven Simple Points on Zakaat al-Fitr
Shaykh Saalih al-AFawzaan
Explanation of Buloogh al-Maraam, vol. 3/pg. 154

[1]: Zakaat al-Fitr is obligatory on every Muslim whether young, old, male, female…1

[2]: The wisdom behind  the obligation of Zakaat  al-Fitr is that it rectifies  the      deficiencies in a Muslim’s fast, and it feeds the needy  [ on the day of the ‘Eid].

[3]: The amount of Zakaat al-Fitr is not to be  less than  a prophetic saa’, which is four   amdaad: four, average handed, two–handed scoops. This  is equivalent  to approximately 3 kilograms (i.e. 6.6 pounds).2

[4]: Zakaat al-Fitr is to be given  with food  that the people  are accustomed to  eating in their particular locale.

[5]: It is not permissible  to give cash  for Zakaat al-Fitr. [It is given in food].

[6]: The proper time to give for Zakaat al-Fitr is from the setting  of the Sun  of the eve of Salaat al-‘Eid until  the emergence  of the Imaam  for Salaat al-‘Eid.

It is also permissible to give Zakaat al-Fitr a day or two before the aforementioned   time, however, it is not permissible  to delay it past Salaat al-‘Eid. If it is delayed  beyond Salaat al-‘Eid, it is still obligatory for it to be given, even outside its proper time – and a person does not get the  reward for Zakaat al-Fitr, rather, a person  only receives the reward  for ordinary charity.

[7]: Zakaat al-Fitr is specifically for the poor. It is not to be given other than them from the eight groups who are eligible for Zakaah, nor is it to be given to charitable causes.

Obligation to pay Zakah is not restricted to Ramadan - Shaykh 'Abdul-Aziz 'Abdullah Al Al-Shaykh

From the Fatwas of Shaykh ‘Abdul-Aziz ibn ‘Abdullah ibn Muhammad Al Al-Shaykh

Mufti of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Obligation to pay Zakah is not restricted to Ramadan

Q: When does Zakah (obligatory charity) become obligatory? When should it be paid and who are its deserving recipients?

A: Zakah on wealth becomes obligatory if a Muslim possesses the Nisab (the minimum amount on which Zakah is due) and it is kept in possession for a Hawl (one lunar year calculated from the time a property reaches the minimum amount upon which Zakah is due), provided that the owner is a free person. The amount of Nisab for gold is twenty Mithqal (1 Mithqal = 4.25 grams) which is equal to approximately 92 gm. While the Nisab for silver is 200 Dirhams which is equal to 56 Saudi Riyals. If a person possesses the Nisab and kept it for a full lunar year, Zakah becomes due on it, which is one quarter of one tenth. For example, the Zakah of 100 Riyals is 2.5 Riyals and for 1000 Riyals it is 25 Riyals, and so on.

The due time for Zakah payment depends on the time when the person possesses the Nisab; if a person owns the Nisab in the month of Muharram, for example, Zakah is obligatory the following Muharram. It is worthy to mention here that the obligatory of paying Zakah is not confined to the month of Ramadan, but some Muslims prefer to pay their Zakah in Ramadan seeking  the doubled reward in this month. However, if Zakah becomes due at any other time than Ramadan, it is obligatory to pay  it and not delay it until Ramadan. If one hastens to pay Zakah in advance before the completion of a year in order to pay it in Ramadan, there is nothing wrong with this, In sha’a-Allah (if Allah wills).

As for the deserving recepients of Zakah, they are those specified in the Saying of Allah (Exalted be He): ”As-Sadaqaat (here it means  Zakaat) are only for the Fuqara (poor), and Al-Masaakin (the poor) and those employed to collect (the funds), and to attract the hearts of those who have been inclined (towards Islaam), and to free the captives, and for those in debt, and for Allaah’s Cause (i.e. for Mujahidun – those fighting in a holy battle), and for the wayfarer (a traveler who is cut off from everything); a duty imposed by Allaah. And Allaah is All-Knower, All-Wise.”

Debts do not exempt from paying Zakah, even if they are more than the available money

Q: Concerning the payment of Zakah (obligatory charity), if a person who is eligible  to pay Zakah is indebted  with a sum exceeding that which they have at hand, should  they pay Zakah from the available  money or not?

(Part No. 14; Page No. 51)

A: Anyone who has money that is subject to Zakah should pay it when a Hawl (one lunar year calculated from the time a property  reaches the minimum amount upon which Zakah is due) passes, even if they are indebted, according to the most authentic of the two scholarly opinions, for the general evidence indicating  the obligation of paying Zakah on anyone  who possesses money after a year  has passed over it. Furthermore, the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to command his Zakah  officers to collect Zakah from whoever is eligible to pay it, without ordering them to ask a person whether or not they were indebted. Had debt prevented this, the Prophet (peace be upon him) would have ordained them to ask those people if they were indebted or not. Allah is the Source of success.
