Plant Good

Imām Ibn Rajab رَحِمَهُ اللهُ said:

Verily, man plants – with his speech and action – good deeds and bad deeds, and then, on the Day of Resurrection, he will harvest what he planted. So, whoever plants good speech and action will harvest dignity and honour. And whoever plants evil speech and action will harvest regret tomorrow.

Indeed, the Promise of Allaah is True!

35. Verily, the Muslims (those who submit to Allāh in Islām) men and women, the believers men and women (who believe in Islāmic Monotheism), the men and the women who are obedient (to Allāh), the men and women who are truthful (in their speech and deeds), the men and women who are patient (in performing all the duties which Allāh has ordered and in abstaining from all that Allāh has forbidden), the men and the women who are humble (before their Lord- Allāh), the men and the women who give Sadaqāt (i.e. Zakāt, and alms), the men and the women who observe Saum (fast) the obligatory fasting during the month of Ramadān, and the optional Nawāfil fasting), the men and the women who guard their chastity (from illegal sexual acts) and the men and the women who remember Allāh much with their hearts and tongues – Allāh has prepared for them forgiveness and a great reward (i.e. Paradise).

A true believer of (Islamic Monotheism) is obedient to Allaah and His Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم) and follows the Qur'aan and Prophet's Sunnah.

27. O you who believe! Betray not Allāh and His Messenger, nor betray knowingly  your Amānāt (things entrusted to you, and all the duties which Allāh has ordained for you).

28. And know that your possessions and your children are but a trial and that surely with Allāh is a mighty reward.

29. O you who believe! If you obey and fear Allāh He will grant you Furqān [(a criterion to judge between right and wrong), or (Makhraj, i.e. a way for you to get out from difficulty)], and will expiate for you your sins, and forgive you; and Allāh is the Owner of the Great Bounty.

It is obligatory to obey the Book of Allāh, the Sunnah of His Messenger, the Rightly-Guided Khalīfahs and the Imāms when they command us to obey Allāh.

51The only saying of the faithful believers, when they are called to Allāh and His Messenger, to judge between them , is that they say: “We hear and we obey”. And such are the successful.

52. And whosoever obeys Allāh and His Messenger, fears Allāh, and has Taqwā of Him, such are the successful

... Allātells us about the attributes of the believers who respond to Allāh and His Messenger and who seek no other way apart from the Book of Allāh  and the Sunnah of His Messenger

Allāh says:

The only saying of the faithful believers, when they are called to Allāh and His Messenger, to judge between them , is that they say: “We hear and we obey”.

Meaning, to hear  to obey. Allāh describes them as having  attained success, which is achieving what one wants and being saved from what one fears. So Allāh says:

And such are the successful

Concerning the Āyah:

they say: “We hear and we obey”.

Qatādah said: “We were told  that when  ‘Ubādah bin As-Sāmit, who had been present  at Al-‘Aqabah and at Badr, and was one of the leaders of the Anār, was dying, he said to his nephew Junādah bin Abi Umayyah:  ‘Shall I not tell you what you must do and what is your due?’ He said, ‘Yes.’ He said: ‘You have to listen and obey when times are easy and when they are hard, when you feel energetic and when you do not want to, and when you feel selfish. You have to train your tongue  to speak the truth. Do not go against those who are in authority, unless they openly command you to commit acts of disobedience to Allāh. Whenever you are commanded to do something that goes against the Book of Allāh, then follow the Book of Allāh. “(1)*

Qatādah said: We were told that Abu Ad-Dardā’ said, “There is no Islām except through obedience to Allāh, and no goodness except in Jamā’ah. Sincerity is to Allāh and His Messenger , and to the Khalīfah and all the believers.” He said: “And we were told that ‘Umar bin Al-Khaṭṭab, may Allāh be pleased with him, used to say; ‘The bonds of Islām are Lā ilāha illallāh, establishing prayer, paying Zakāh and obeying those whom Allāh has given authority over the affairs of the Muslims.’” This was recorded by Ibn Abi ātim.(2)*...

And whosoever obeys Allāh and His Messenger,

in what he is commanded with, and avoid  what he is forbidden,

fears Allāh, means, for his past sins,

And has Taqwā of Him, regarding sins he may commit in the future.

Such are the successful. means, those  who will attain all goodness  and be saved  from all evil in this world and the Hereafter.

Indeed, the effect (or fruitful outcome) is great indeed

97. Whoever works righteousness  - whether male or female  - while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islāmic Monotheism) verily, to him We will give a good life  (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and We shall pay them certainly a reward in proportion to the best of what they used to do (i.e. Paradise in the Hereafter).

Paradise will not be attained with wishful thinking...

So whoever hopes for the Meeting with his Lord, let him work righteousness and associate none as partner in the worship of his Lord.[18:110]

Shaykh Saalih Al Fawzaan حَفِظَهُ الله وَرُعَاه said:

This (ayah) is a proof that just hope (in meeting Allaah and attaining paradise) alone is not sufficient, it is a must that there is (righteous) action. As for you hoping in Allaah however do not accompany it with (righteous ) deeds then you have negated the reason (that will help you attain your meeting with Allaah).”

Allah سبحانه و تعالى knows those who truly believe and He is Best Aware of what the hypocrites conceal.

9. And for those who believe (in the Oneness of Allāh and the other articles of Faith) and do righteous good deeds, surely, We shall make them enter with  (in the entrance of) the righteous  (in Paradise).

10. Of mankind are some who say: “We believe in Allāh.” But if they are made to suffer for the sake of Allāh , they consider the trial of mankind as Allāh’s punishment; and if victory comes from your Lord, (the hypocrites) will say: “Verily, we were with you (helping you).” Is not Allāh Best Aware of what is in the breasts of the Ālamīn (mankind and jinn).

11. Verily, Allāh knows those who believe, and verily, He knows the hypocrites [i.e. Allāh will test the people with good and hard days to discriminate the good from the wicked, although Allāh knows all that before putting them to test].

12. And those who disbelieve say to those who believe: “Follow our way and we will verily bear your sins.” Never will they bear anything of their sins. Surely, they are liars.

13. And verily, they shall bear their own loads, and other loads besides their own; and verily, they shall be questioned on the Day of Resurrection about that which they used to fabricate.

O Muslims! Watch Allah (in everything you do), heed for Taqwa in all cases and hold yourselves to account for all your sayings, deeds and dealings. Hasten to do good deeds and perform the obligations of Allah, make Tawbah (repentance to Allah), acquire comprehensive knowledge of Din (religion), avoid Allah’s prohibitions, and beware of dedicating yourselves to this world and giving it priority over the hereafter. Indeed, if you do the foregoing you will be granted glory, security, guidance, and happiness both in this world and in the hereafter.

The Physiological and Spiritual Affects of Sins on The Body and Heart:

The Physiological and Spiritual Affects of Sins on The Body and Heart:

Ibn Al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:

Doctors of old said, “Whoever seeks to acquire good health for the body should consume less amounts of food and drink. Whoever seeks the well-being of his heart, let him abandon sin.

Also, Thabit bin Qurrath said,

“The body’s well-being requires consuming less food, the soul’s comfort is in committing less sins and the consolation of the tongue is in uttering less speech.”

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said,

Sins are just like poison to the heart – if they do not destroy it, they will weaken it. Then when the heart is weaker, it will become less efficient in fighting disease.

The biggest of the heart’s ills occur by satisfying its lusts and desires, while ignoring them constitutes its biggest cure.

We should also mention that originally, ignorance and injustice were created in the self (nafs). Because the self is ignorant, it thinks that its cure is in the following its desire, although this path leads it to its destruction and demise.

He رحمه الله  also said,

Four matters harden the face and rid it of its youth and health:

Lying, rudeness, asking too many questions without knowledge (or useful purpose) and sinning.

Four matters increase the youth of the face:

Chivalry, faithfulness, generosity and fear of Allāh.

Four matters bring about anger and hatred:

Arrogance, envy, lying and spreading calumnies.

Four matters bring sustenance:

Standing up in prayer at night, seeking forgiveness (of Allāh) often at night, giving away in charity and remembering Allah morning and evening.

Four matters prevent sustenance:

Sleeping in the morning (after fajr), not praying often, laziness and treachery.”

The Character of Seeking Forgiveness

The Character of Seeking Forgiveness

Allaah Taala says:

And O my people! Ask forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him, He will send you (from the sky) abundant rain, and add strength to your strength, so do not turn away as disbelievers in the Oneness of Allaah). (Hood:52)

Al-Hafidh Ibn Katheer -Rahimahullaah- said:

Whosoever is characterised with seeking forgiveness, then Allaah makes his provision easy for him, makes his matters easy for him and Allaah also protects his matters and provisions.

What should I do on the night of Laylatul Qadr?

What should I do on the night of Laylatul Qadr?

1. Make the duaa that the Prophet taught Aaishah

O Allah, indeed You are Pardoning, You love to pardon, so pardon me.

2. Read Quraan (the Prophet used to study with Jibreel).

3. Pray Taraweeh or night prayer (if you stand with the imam till  he finishes, then you have the reward of standing in prayer all night).

4. Engage in dhikr – remembrance of Allaah.

5. Make general duaa for yourself, family, friends, Muslim Ummah, Muslim leaders and scholars etc. If a Muslim does not ask Allaah or make duaa He becomes angry.

6. Seek forgiveness for your sins and repent  from them (istighfaar and tawbah). Allaah frees people  from the Fire every night of Ramadhaan.

7. Charity –Sadaqah (Prophet was most generous in Ramadhaan). This is the night that  Allaah decrees  your provisions for the whole year. Use your wealth that Allaah  blessed you with  for good.

8. All types of good deeds.

9. Seclude yourself in the masjid – itikaaf (can be even one hour, one night 10 days).

N.B The night (islamically) start at sunset, Maghrib time, and finishes at dawn, Fajr time.
