Imām Mālik: "I did not sit [and teach] until..."

Imām Mālik ibn Anas (رَحِمَهُ اللهُ) said:

Not everyone who wants to sit in the masjid to narrate adīth and give fatwá should sit [and do so] until he consults the people of righteousness, virtue and those in charge of the masjid. So, if they see that he is worthy of that then he sits [and teaches]. I did not sit [and teach] until seventy scholars from the people  of knowledge bore witness that I am worthy.

Among The Excellent Manners of Our Salaf - A Reminder & Admonition For Our Nafs

Ibn Sad [rahimahullaah] said in At-Tabaqaat that whenever Umar Ibn Abdil Azeez delivered a sermon & feared self-amazement, he ended it; & whenever he wrote a letter & feared self-amazement, he tore it and said, O Allaah! I seek refuge with you from the evil of my Nafs.

Tafsīr by mere Opinion

It is prohibited to indulge in Tafsīr by mere opinion. Muammad bin Jarīr reported that Ibn ‘Abbās said that the Prophet said,

مَنْ قَالَ فِي الْقُرْآنِ بِرَأْيِهِ أَوْ بِمَا لَا يَعْلَمُ فَلْيَتَبَوَّأْ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنَ النَّارِ

“Whoever explains the Qur’ān with his opinion or with what he has no knowledge of, then let him assume his seat in the Fire.”

At-Tirmidhi, An-Nasā’ī and Abu Dāwud also recorded this adīth. At-Tirmidhi said, “asan.

The Mercy of Allaah, The Almighty - إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَٲسِعُ ٱلۡمَغۡفِرَةِ‌ۚ. Verily, your Lord is of vast forgiveness [53:32]

Ibn Al-Qayyim mentions that if a person fulfils the obedience & servitude of his Lord sincerely for His sake, then all that happens to him that he dislikes will be good for him, & if he leaves off His obedience & servitude, then all that pleases him is evil for him.

How are the Jinn affected by the Quran, but humans aren't?! - Explained by Al-'Allāmah Salih Al-Fawzān

“Say: ‘It has been revealed to me that a group of jinns listened  (to this Quran). They said: Indeed! We have heard a wonderful Recital! It guides to the Right Path, and we have believed therein, and we shall never join (in worship) anything with our Lord (Allah).”[72:1-2]

In explanation of these opening verses from the Surah al-Jinn, Shaikh Salih al-Fowzan (حَفِظَهُ اللهُ) stated:

One is indeed astonished! If the Jinn are affected by the Quran and grow more fearful because of it, what then is the case with humans, most of whom turn away from it?!

Praying Nawafil (Voluntary or Optional) Prayers at home is more virtuous

Imām Ibn ‘Uthaymeen: “It is befitting upon the person to make all his optional prayers in his home, be it ar-Rawaatib or salat ad-Duha or at-Tahajjud or other than them. Even in Makkah & Madeenah, it is more virtuous to pray the optional prayers in the home.

(V. 3: 164) Following the Sunnah (legal ways) of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم And the Statement of Allâh عز و جل - "And make us leaders for the righteous." (V. 25:74).

164. Indeed, Allâh conferred a great favour on the believers when He sent among them a Messenger (Muhammadصلى الله عليه وسلم ) from among themselves, reciting to them  His Verses (the Qur’ân), and purifying them (from sins by their following him), and instructing them (in) the Book (the Qur’â n) and Al-Hikmah [the wisdom and the Sunnah of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم (i.e. his legal ways, statements, acts of worship)], while before that they had been in manifest error.[1]

Mujahid said, “(Make us) a community that follows the Muttaqûn (righteous) people who preceded us, and whom those succeeding may follow.” Ibn ‘Aun said, “(There are) three things which I love for myself and for my brothers, i.e. this Sunnah (the legal ways of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم  which they should learn and ask about,; the Qur’ân which they should understand and ask the people about; and that they should leave the people except when intending to do (good for them).” (Sahīh Al-Bukhârī, Vol. 9, Chap. 2, P. 282).

A) Narrated Hudhaifah: Allâh’s Messenger  صلى الله عليه وسلم said to us, “Certainly Al-Amânah (the trust or the moral responsibility or honesty, and all the duties which Allâh has ordained) descended from the heavens and settled in the roots of the hearts of men (faithful believers), and then the Qur’ân was revealed and the people read the Qur’ân, (and learnt Al-Amânah from it) and also learnt it from the Sunnah [Both the Qur’ân and As-Sunnah strengthened their (the faithful believer’s) Amanâh].” (Sahīh Al-Bukhârī, Vol. 9, Hadīth No. 381).

B) Narrated Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه: Allâh’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم  said, “All my followers will enter Paradise except those who refuse.” They said, “O Allâh’s Messenger! Who will refuse?” He said, “Whoever obeys me will enter Paradise, and whoever disobeys me is the one who refuses (to enter it).” ].” (Sahīh Al-Bukhârī, Vol. 9, Hadīth No. 384).

C) Narrated Jâbir bin ‘Abdullâh رضي الله عنهما: Some angels came to Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم while he was sleeping. Some of them said, “He is sleeping.” Others said, “His eyes are sleeping but his heart is awake.” Then they said, “There is an example for this companion of yours.” One of them said, “Then set forth an example for him.” Some of them said, “He is sleeping.” The others said, “His eyes are sleeping but his heart is awake.” Then they said, “His example is that of a man who has built a house and then offered therein a banquet and sent an inviter (messenger) to invite the people. So whosoever accepted the invitation of the inviter, entered the house and ate of the banquet, and whoever did not accept the invitation of the inviter, did not enter the house, nor did he eat of the banquet.” Then the angels said, “Interpret this parable to him so that he may understand it.”Some of them said, “He is sleeping.” The others said, “His eyes are sleeping but his heart is awake.” And then they said, “The house stands for Paradise and the call-maker is Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم and whoever obeys Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم , obeys Allâh; and whoever disobeys Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم , disobeys Allâh. Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم separated the people (i.e., through his message; the good is distinguished from the bad, and the believers from the disbelievers).” (Sahīh Al-Bukhârī, Vol. 9, Hadīth No. 385).

D) Narrated Abu Mūsa رضي الله عنه : The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, “My example, and the example of what I have been sent with, is that of a man who came to some people and said, ‘O people I have seen the enemy’s army with my own eyes, and I am the naked warner; so protect yourselves!” Then a group of his people obeyed him and fled at night proceeding stealthily till they were safe, while another group of them disbelieved him and stayed at their places till morning when the army came upon them , and killed and ruined them completely. So this is the example of that person who obeys me and follows that truth which I have brought (the Qur’ân and the Sunnah), and the example of the one who disobeys me and disbelieves the truth  I have brought. (Sahīh Al-Bukhârī, Vol. 9, Hadīth No. 387)

"Whoever is inspired (by Allāh) to supplicate..."

Ibn Al-Qayyim: Whoever is inspired (by Allāh) to supplicate (to Allāh), then a response has already been intended for him, for Allāh has said:

ادعوني أستجب لكم

Call on me, I will answer you [40:60]

وإذا سألك عبادي عني فإني قريب أجيب دعوة الداع إذا دعان

And when my servants ask you about me, then (tell them) I am close, I answer the prayer of the caller when he calls upon me [2:186]

The Most Stupid Person! - by Ibnul Qayyim

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] said:

The most stupid of the people is the one who strays at the end of his journey [i.e. end of his life] even though the  destination is close [i.e. his departure from this world]. The intellects that are aided with Tawfeeq – [i.e. aided with the means to sound guidance together  with righteous deeds] regard the revelation – which the Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] was sent with – as the truth  that is in harmony with  [sound] intellect and wisdom. The intellects that  are forsaken [i.e. in misguidance] see a contradiction between Aql [sound] intellect and Naql [i.e. the affairs related to the sound creed, acts of worship, commands and prohibitions that have been transmitted  in the Qur’aan  and authentic Sunnah], and between [sound] wisdom and the divine ordainments.

The closest path to [attaining the Pleasure of] Allaah are:

Adherence to the [authentic] Sunnah and to restrict oneself to it – internally [i.e. in one’s heart, mind etc], externally [i.e. by way of deeds]; to be in a state of constant need of Allaah and desiring His Countenance alone through speech [of the tongue] and deeds [of the limbs]. No one has  ever attained Allaah’s  [Pleasure, Guidance etc] except through these three affairs, and no one has been prevented  from [attaining Allaah's Pleasure, Guidance etc], except due to being seperated  from these three affairs or one of them.

The basis upon the happiness [success, well-being etc] of a person  [in this worldly life and Afterlife] are  three,  but each of  them has its opposite; so whoever is deprived of one of them, he will encounter its opposite; Tawheed [Islamic Monotheism] and its opposite is Shirk [associating partners in worship with Allaah; the [authentic] Sunnah  and its opposite  Bidah [i.e. innovation in religious affairs], obedience [to Allaah and His Messenger] and its opposite is disobedience. These three affairs [i.e. Tawheed, the authentic  Sunnah and obedience [to Allaah and His Messenger]  are opposed by one thing and that is: The heart being deprived of Ar-Raghbah Fillaah Wa Feemaa Indahu, Wa Minar Rahbah Minhu Wa Mimmaa Indahu [i.e. the heart deprived of the fervent desire to seek Allaah’s Pleasure through acts of obedience and hoping for Allaah’s reward, and deprived of fear of Allaah and the reward Allaah has kept for those who feared Him].

Advice from Sh. Ibn Baz on How a Muslim Can Be Productive with His or Her Time.

1. a part of his day and night for recital of the Qur’aan and contemplation of it;

2. a part for seeking knowledge and understanding the religion, memorizing primers, and reviewing problematic issues;

3. a part to take care of his obligations with his family.

4. a part for his prayers, worship, and types of remembrance and supplication…

So know that  Lā ilāha ill-Allāh (none has the right to be worshipped but Allaah), and ask forgiveness for your sin, and also for (the sin of) believing men and believing women. (Muhammad: 19)

Do we truly fear Allah and place our hope in Him?

Do we truly fear Allah and place our hope in Him?

Shaykh Abdur Razzaq al-Badr

Taken from a Friday sermon entitled

لايرجو عبد إلا ربه ولا يخاف إلا ذنبه / للشيخ عبدالرزاق  العباد البدر حفظه الله

The slave only places his hope in Allah and he only fears his sins

O slaves of Allah, when the slave has these attributes, meaning he only places his hope in Allah, and he only fears his sins then his life, all of it, will be established around obedience and righteous deeds and staying far away from sins, and actualizing the Tawheed of Allah the Exalted.

Beware O slaves of Allah, beware that your only portion of this is a mere claim and statement. And the people may fall into this knowingly and unknowingly.

Imam Ahmad narrated in his book Zuhud that Muawiyah ibn Qurah said:

“I entered upon Muslim ibn Yasar and said to him ‘I do not have any major good deeds, but I place my hope in Allah and I fear Him’.”

Muslim ibn Yasar responded: “Ma-sha Allah, whoever fears something, he is cautious of it, and whoever hopes for something, he seeks for it. And I don’t know; what is the value of an individual’s fear if when desires are presented to him, he does not abandon them due to what he fears? Or when he is tested with a calamity, he is not patient due to what he hopes for?”

Muawiyah said: “I ascribed purity to myself, while I was not aware of it.”
