Beware of “Self-Thought” Intellectuals Claiming Knowledge

Beware of “Self-Thought” Intellectuals Claiming Knowledge

Shaykh Sāli al-Fawzān (حفظه الله) stated:

"It is possible for any person to buy an amount of books and read them, but that doesn’t benefit anything, it harms more than it benefits. Let’s give an example: If you felt an illness, do you go to the pharmacy and pick up any random medicine from it? Or must you go to the doctor first so he can diagnose the type of illness and prescribe the appropriate medicine? All of that is done (visiting the doctor etc. first) fearing that you may take a harmful medicine that is not appropriate, which may kill you or harm you. Similarly, knowledge, you must go to the specialists in it, and take it from them, and do not suffice with just books, for fear  of falling into misguidance, and being affected by what is in some of them from doubts…”

Importance of Correctly Reciting Sūrah al-Fātiḥah

Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah [d. 728] رحمه الله said:

In the Fātiah there are  11 tashdīdahs )letters with  ـّ  ّ)in the  Basmalah there are 3. Leaving off even one of these (not pronouncing it with a shaddah) will invalidate  the prayer according to  many of our  companions, the way it would if a letter was to be left off. Because the mushaddad letter is made up of two letters, one has a sukoon and the other a vowel.

Upon you is knowledge. For indeed seeking it is worship.Learning it for Allaah’s sake is a good deed...

Upon you is knowledge. For indeed seeking it is worship. Learning it for Allaah’s sake is a good deed. Striving upon it is a means of drawing nearness [to Allaah] for its people. Teaching it to one who does not know it is charity. Researching it is Jihaad. And reviewing it is Tasbeeh.

The importance of knowledge in fighting destructive ideas

.....

There is no doubt that knowledge is the key to all good and the means to fulfill the Ordinances of Allah and abstain from what He has forbidden. Actions come after having knowledge, for those whom Allah has granted success. Knowledge supports the determination to do good, because there is no Iman (faith), action, or striving except based on knowledge. Words and actions which are not based on knowledge are worthless and may incur bad consequences and great corruption.

The Right Source of Knowledge

Shaykh Abdul Salam bn Barjis Aal Abdil Karim – May Allah have mercy upon him – said:

“O students: If you want knowledge from its sources, then these are the senior scholars; those whose beards have become gray, and their bodies have shrunk and their strength  has waned in (seeking) knowledge and teaching.

Stick to them before you lose them and draw out (benefit from) their treasures before it disappears with them, because on a dark night, the full moon is missed.”

Abdullāh Ibn Mas’ūd (radiyallāhu ‘anhu) explained,

Abdullāh Ibn Mas’ūd (radiyallāhu ‘anhu) explained,

“There will not come upon you a day except that it is worse than the day that came before it, until the Hour is established. I do not mean in terms of affluence in one’s life or the wealth that one acquires. Rather, there will not come upon you a day except that it will be lesser in knowledge than the day that passed before it. So when the scholars have passed away and died, the people will all be at the same level – so they will not enjoin the good, nor forbid the evil, and at that point they will be ruined.

Absolute Safety Is Found In The Path Of The Salaf And Beware Of Ahlul Bidah! – Shaykh Al-Allaamah Zaid Ibn Muhammad Al-Madkhali (rahimahullah)

Al-Allaamah Zaid Ibn Muhammad Al-Madkhali ( May Allah have mercy on him ) said :

“And beware! Beware of falling into innovation and mixing [with] its people, and beware of listening to their deceptive [statements] and arguments because it is a disease. Indeed safety- absolute safety- is found in clinging to the Quran and Sunnah based on the correct understanding- the [understanding] of the Salafus Saaleh [the righteous predecessors], which cannot be attained except by way of ernest effort and striving in seeking understanding of the religion, with the righteous intention, wisdom [in the manner of] attaining and conveying [it].”

Ibn Al-Qayyim: “And the heart has other sicknesses, from them: Showing off, Arrogance and Pride, and Self-amazement…

Imaam Ibn Al-Qayyim رَحِمَهُ اللهُ :

And the heart has other sicknesses, from them: Showing off, Arrogance and Pride, and Self-amazement… and all these sicknesses are born (due) out of ignorance, and the cure for it is KNOWLEDGE.

Shaikh Ibn Bāz said: Seeking knowledge is a kind of Jihād, and it is obligatory…

Shaikh Ibn Bāz said:

Seeking knowledge is a kind of Jihād, and it is obligatory… It is upon [one] to study and gain understanding in the religion, and it is better and takes precedence over Jihād, since it [seeking knowledge] is obligatory.

It is upon him to take steps to gain understanding in the religion, while Jihād [when it exists] is a commendable [act], a community obligation, [such that] if some [Muslims] stood up [to the task], everyone else would be relieved [of it].

But a person’s seeking knowledge is a matter that is obligatory upon him [as an individual] so that he gain understanding of his [own] religion…
