Importance of Correctly Reciting Sūrah al-Fātiḥah

 

Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah [d. 728] رحمه الله said:

“In the Fātiḥah there are  11 tashdīdahs )letters with  ـّ  ّ), in the  Basmalah there are 3. Leaving off even one of these (not pronouncing it with a shaddah) will invalidate  the prayer according to  many of our  companions, the way it would if a letter was to be left off. Because the mushaddad letter is made up of two letters, one has a sukoon and the other a vowel.”

How do you know if your heart is sound or sick...

 

The illustrious scholar, Shaykh ‘Abdu Rahmân ibn Nâsir As-Sa’dee (d.1367H) رحمه الله stated,

“The sound and upright heart does not desire nor incline , except towards goodness, or towards that which Allaah has made permissible for him. So when you see the heart inclining towards disobedience, quick to submit to it (i.e. sins) then it is sick.”

The importance of knowledge in fighting destructive ideas

There is no doubt that knowledge is the key to all good and the means to fulfill the Ordinances of Allah and abstain from what He has forbidden. Actions come after having knowledge, for those whom Allah has granted success. Knowledge supports the determination to do good, because there is no Iman (faith), action, or striving except based on knowledge. Words and actions which are not based on knowledge are worthless and may incur bad consequences and great corruption.

Some Salaf (righteous predecessors, may Allah be pleased with them), said, 

“Whoever applies what he learns is granted knowledge of things that they do not know.”

Allah (Glorified be He) states,  While as for those who accept guidance, He increases their guidance and bestows on them their piety. (Surah Muhammad 47:17)

Some of the Salaf (rightly guided ancestors) said, “When I would read a parable in the Qur’an that I could not comprehend, I would cry for myself because Allāh the Exalted says,

وَمَا يَعْقِلُهَا إِلَّا الْعَالِمُونَ

But none will understand them except those who have knowledge. [29:43]

The Good word is Charity (الكَلِمَةُ الطَّيِّبَةُ صَدَقَةٌ)

 

The Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said:

الكَلِمَةُ الطَّيِّبَةُ صَدَقَةٌ

(The good word is charity.)[1]

Shaikh Muhammad bin Saalih al-‘Uthaimeen (rahimahullaah) mentioned:

 “Charity is not exclusive to wealth, rather everything that draws one close to Allaah is charity in the general sense, because carrying it is a proof of the truthfulness of its adherent in seeking the pleasures of Allaah, The Mighty and Majestic.”[2]

Asking the Creation for Fulfillment of Needs Has Not Been Commanded as Opposed to Asking for Knowledge

 Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمه الله) said:

. سؤال المخلوق المخلوق أن يقضي حاجة نفسه أو يدعو له فلم يؤمر به بخلاف سؤال العلم

 “A person asking another person to fulfill a need of his or to make duʾā for him, this has not been commanded (in the legislation) as opposed to asking for knowledge.” Majmūʿ al-Fatāwā (1/185)

This and the prior statement of Ibn Taymiyyah is in relation to asking for the fulfillment of one’s needs in worldly, material affairs from others. It indicates the importance of being diligent, hard-working and self-reliant after one’s reliance upon Allāh, seeking His aid and assistance, displaying want only of Him and His bounty, and not displaying want and need of others in one’s material needs as that is lowering oneself.
