A Du’ā concerning Faith

The Companion, ‘Abdullāh Ibn ‘Umar  رضي الله عنهما would say in his supplications:

اَللَّهُمَّ لا تَنْزِعْ مِنِّي الْإِيْمانَ كما أَعْطَيْتَهُ

Allāhumma lā tanzi’ minnil-eemāna  kamā a’aytahu

O Allāh! Do not remove  Eemān from me, as you  (are the One who) gave it.

The most profound of that which a person could ask of his Lord are three things:

The good pleasure of Allaah, The Mighty and Majestic.

Looking at His Noble Face.

Al-Firdous, the highest heaven.

Among the narrations which a Muslim should memorize and mention on a daily basis in order to be protected is:

 -----

ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān raiallāhu ʿanh said: The Messenger of Allāh āllallāhu ʿālayhi wa sallam stated: There is no servant who says each day in the morning and evening:

بِسْمِ اللهِ الَّذِي لاَ يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلاَ فِي السَّمَاءِ، وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ العَلِيمُ

In the Name of Allāh, in Whose Name nothing can harm on the earth or in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

3 times, except that he will not be afflicted with any harm.2

Shaykh ‘Abd al-Razzāq al-‘Abbād afthahullāh stated:

This is one of the tremendous supplications that a Muslim should regularly mention every morning and evening so that he may be protected – by the permission of Allāh – from being afflicted with unexpected harm, tragedy, or something similar.3

‘O Allāh! I ask You for wellness in the dunyaa and in the Aakhirah.’

The Prophet said:

There is no supplication that a servant can supplicate with better than:

“Let your tongue always be moist with the remembrance of Allāh.”

Abdullah bin Busr رضي الله عنه said that a man asked the Prophet , O Messenger of Allāh! Verily, the sanctions of Islam have become too numerous for me (to perform them all). Inform me of something (simple) that I may always adhere to. The Prophet said, Let your tongue always be moist with the remembrance of Allāh.

Supplication is a cause for repelling misfortune just like the shield is a cause for repelling weapons

Al Hafiz An Nawawi رحمه الله said:

Supplication is a cause for repelling misfortune and the presence of mercy, just as how the shield is a cause for repelling the weapon and water is a cause for the emergence of plants from the ground. Therefore, just as how  the shield repels the arrow  such that they both struggle, such is the case  for supplication and misfortune. Not taking a shield isnt from the conditions of acknowledging predestination. Allaah,  the Most High, said, They should take precaution and carry weapons. Allaah predestined the affair (of being victorious) and its cause.

The Way of Allāh is (to bring) Ease with Difficulty

The Way of Allāh is (to bring) Ease with Difficulty

Shaikh Muhammad Khalīl Harrās said:

“It has occurred from the way of Allāh in His creation that relief is with distress, and that ease is with difficulty, and that hardship does not persist, and so if strength of recourse and longing for the virtue of Allāh is combined, and beseeching and supplication, Allāh opens up for them from His treasures of His Mercy that which does not occur to the minds.”

Ibn Taymiyyah’s Tremendous Reply Regarding The Disease & The Cure

Ibn Taymiyyah’s Tremendous Reply Regarding The Disease & The Cure

All praise belongs to Allaah the Lord of all the worlds.

Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (d. 728H) - may Allaah be pleased with him and grant him paradise - was asked:

Question:

What is the cure for the one who has been overtaken by a disease, and what is the best strategy employed for the one who has been overwhelmed with Khabal (confused state of mind, mental disorder), and what is the correct course of action to be taken for the one who has been overcome with laziness, and what is the path to at-Tawfeeq (success), and what is the way out for the one who has been enveloped by al-Hayrah (bewilderment and uncertainty)?

When he wishes to turn to Allaah, he is prevented by his desires. And if he desires to remember (his Lord), he gets subdued (i.e. distracted) by thoughts.

Consumed by desires so at times you will observe him confused, he is sober but yet inebriated enraptured When he wishes to draw close to his beloved, his means become scattered and he continues upon abandoning and ostracising

By abandoning relatives and acquaintances - he beguiles himself (into thinking) that he will find freedom and upon it he will gain support and help

He does not increase except in confusion and fatigue. Is this how it is with them that they belittle the one who appeals to be rescued and saved?

Answer:

Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (d.728H) replied:

The cure for it is to take refuge in Allaah, the Most High, and to always have at-Taddaru’ (humility and humbleness) to Allaah, the One free from all imperfections, and to make Duaa (supplication). A person must learn the supplications narrated (from the Messenger of Allaah). He must strive in making supplications during the times and places wherein supplications are answered/accepted (al-Ijaabah); for example the last third of the night, the times between the Adhaan and the Iqaamah, during the Sajdah (prostration) and at the end of the Salawaat (the five daily prayers).

In addition to that (i.e. from the cure) is al-Istighfaar (seeking forgiveness from Allaah). For indeed whoever seeks forgiveness from Allaah and turns to Him in repentance, then Allaah will grant him good provisions to enjoy and benefit from till an appointed term.

Furthermore, (from the cure is that) one must adhere to reciting the daily portion of the Adhkaar (prophetic remembrances) at the two ends of the day (i.e in the morning and the evening), and when going to sleep. And let him be patient with what may occur to him from the obstacles and the various distractions. For indeed he will not remain long in that state except that Allaah will support and strengthen him with Rooh (proofs, light and true guidance) from Himself and He will write Faith in his heart.

Moreover, he must be diligent in completing the obligatory from the five daily prayers - inwardly and outwardly - since it is a pillar of the Deen.

And let his habitual practice be (reciting): “Laa hawla wa laa quwwata illaa billaah” (there is no change and no power except with Allaah’s aid). For indeed with (adhering to) it (one can) bear the heavy burdens and withstand the ordeals, and by it you will attain lofty positions (i.e. lofty ranks).

One should not get weary of supplicating (Duaa) and requesting. For indeed a servants supplication will be answered as long as he is not impatient and hasty - and says: “I have made Du‘aa but it has not been answered.” He should know that victory comes with having as-Sabr (patience and perseverance), and that alleviation comes along with the calamity, and with every hardship there is ease.

And all praise is for Allaah the Lord of the ‘Alameen.

"Amongst the ways of giving life to the heart is to be humble to Allâh in secret..."

Shaykh al-Islâm Ibn Tymiyyah رحمه الله said:

Amongst the ways of giving life to the heart is to be humble to Allâh in secret. Meaning to desire and long for Allâh through supplication, seeking forgiveness, turning to Him, asking for victory, Paradise and shelter from Hellfire at the time when Allâh descends to the lowest Heaven in the last third of the night…

A Tremendous Supplication

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

O Allah! Rectify my religion for me, which is the safeguard of my affairs; rectify my worldly [affairs], wherein is my livelihood; and rectify my Afterlife to which is my return; and make life for me [as a means of] increase in every good and make death for me as a rest from every evil. [Saheeh Muslim Number: 2720]

This is also one of the comprehensive supplications of the Prophet (sallal laahu alayhi wasallam). Indeed, it gathers affairs a person asks Allaah for the rectification of one’s religious affairs, worldly affairs and affairs related to the Afterlife. It begins with one’s religious affairs because when one religion is rectified, then the other affairs [i.e. one’s Dunyaa and Aakhirah] will also be rectified.

O Allaah! Rectify my religion for me, which is the safeguard of my affairs.

Rectify my religion for me]- Meaning:  Asking Allaah for the rectification of one’s religion- to be blessed with the ability and guidance to fulfil its obligations, etiquettes and requirements in a perfect and complete manner; blessed with the guidance and ability to adhere to the Qur’aan and the authentic Sunnah based on the path of the Salafus Saaleh – the Sahaabah, the Taabi’een and the righteous Imaams- in affairs related to sound creed, worship, Dawah [i.e. the sound method of calling to the path of Allaah] and good social behaviour in general. [الَّذِي هُوَ عِصْمَةُ أَمْرِي– which is the safeguard of my affairs]- Meaning: The affair through which all my affairs will be protected, just as Allaah stated: [وَٱعۡتَصِمُواْ بِحَبۡلِ ٱللَّهِ جَمِيعً۬ا وَلَا تَفَرَّقُواْ‌ۚAnd hold fast, all of you together, to the Rope of Allah (i.e. this Qur’an), and be not divided among yourselves]. [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayah 103]

This shows the fact that adherence to the religion based on the sound methodology [of the Salaf] is a means to safety for the person – [a safeguard] against the misleading trials and against falling into deviation in creed and deeds; and that not adhering to the religion is the reason behind ruining one’s affairs, just as Allaah said: [وَلَا تُطِعۡ مَنۡ أَغۡفَلۡنَا قَلۡبَهُ ۥ عَن ذِكۡرِنَا وَٱتَّبَعَ هَوَٮٰهُ وَكَانَ أَمۡرُهُ ۥ فُرُطً۬اand obey not him whose heart We have made heedless of Our Remembrance, one who follows his own lusts and whose affair (deeds) has been lost]. [Surah Al-Kahf. Aayah 28] [see tafseer]

And rectify my worldly (affairs), wherein is my livelihood.

[وَأَصْلِحْ لِي دُنْيَايَ – And rectify my worldly (affairs)]- Meaning: Asking Allaah to rectify one’s worldly affairs- to be granted sufficiency in what one needs and through permissible means, as well as making it a means that aids one to obey Allaah. [الَّتِي فِيهَا مَعَاشِي– wherein is my livelihood]- Meaning: In my livelihood and my life. This shows that people have a specified livelihood and a determined provision, and they will receive all of it before they die.

And rectify my Afterlife to which is my return.

[وَأَصْلِحْ لِي آخِرَتِي – And rectify my Afterlife]- Meaning: Asking Allaah to make one’s affairs upright in the afterlife – to receive Allaah’s Kindness, guidance and ability to obey Him [and the Messenger]; granted a righteous departure from this life and success through eternal bliss in paradise. [الَّتِي فِيهَا مَعَادِي – to which is my return]- Meaning: My place of return and my return to Allaah. [Allaah said]: [ لِيَجۡزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسَـٰٓـُٔواْ بِمَا عَمِلُواْ وَيَجۡزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَحۡسَنُواْ بِٱلۡحُسۡنَى- so that He (Allaah) may requite those who do evil with that which they have done (i.e. punish them in Hell), and reward those who do good, with what is best (i.e. Paradise)]. [Surah An-Najm. Aayah 31]

And make life for me (as a means of) increase in every good.

[وَاجْعَلِ الْحَيَاةَ زِيَادَةً لِي فِي كُلِّ خَيْرٍ– And make life for me (as a means of) increase in every good]- Meaning: Make the duration of lifespan an opportunity and a means of attaining good in speech and deeds. This shows that the duration of person’s lifespan is a motive for increasing in righteous and good deeds.

And make death for me as a rest from every evil.

And make death for me as a rest from every evil]- Meaning: Make death and my departure from this worldly life a means of rest; and not trials, tests and calamities through sinning and heedlessness.

This shows that the believer is upon complete ease and submission in desiring to meet his Lord, [desiring] to receive Allaah’s great reward and external bliss. We ask Allaah for His Bounty.

O Allah! Rectify my religion for me, which is the safeguard of my affairs; rectify my worldly [affairs], wherein is my livelihood; and rectify my Afterlife to which is my return; and make life for me [as a means of] increase in every good and make death for me as a rest from every evil.

The Day Of Arafah Is The Best Day Of The Year...

Al-Imam An-Nawawi said:

This day  (the day of Arafah) is the best day of the year for prayer, so it is necessary  that a person exhaust his effort  in dhikr, prayer and the recitation of the Qurān. And he should pray  with the various types of duaa; he should pray for himself, his parents, his family, his teachers, his companions, his friends, his beloveds, all those who did good to him and the Muslims generally. And he should be careful; totally  careful from being inadequate regarding all of that. For indeed this day can not be attained again (once it is lost).

The Reason Behind Rejection Of Du'aa

Shaykh Salih Aal Shaykh (may Allah protect him):

Leaving commanding with good and prohibiting falsehood is a reason for non-acceptance of Duaa. So, people make duaa and they are not answered and this is a great calamity since we cannot suffice away from Allaah for a blink of an eye.
