Abū al-Dardā (رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ) : Be One Of Four But Not The Fifth!
Al-Ḥasan al-Baṣrī (رَحِمَهُ اللهُ) said: Abū al-Darḍā (رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ) said:
كن عالماً أو متعلماً أو مستمعاً أو محباً ، ولا تكن الخامسة فتهلك.
“Be a scholar, or a student, or one who listens
[to the scholars] or one who loves [the scholars and students] but do not be
the fifth and be destroyed.” Ḥumayd, the narrator from al-Ḥasan said, “ I said to Ḥasan: And what is the
fifth?” He said:
المبتدع
“The Innovator.”
