Should I take my Shahada Over? Explained by Shaykh Uthaymeen - Translated by Ustadh Rasheed Ibn Estes Barbee

Should I take my Shahada Over?

By Shaykh Uthaymeen

Question: If the person repents and returns to his Lord after having left off the prayer, is it upon him to pronounce the Shahada (testimony of faith) again, and to take a ghusul (ritual shower for purification)?

Shaykh Uthaymeen: If the person who did not pray repents to Allah the Exalted and begins to pray again, then he will be a Muslim due to his prayer; because the person who becomes a disbeliever due to leaving something, he becomes a Muslim when begins to perform this action. And in this very prayer he will say, ‘I bear witness that nothing has the right to be worshipped except for Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and messenger.

As for taking the ghusul, then this is based upon the view that the ghusul is an obligation when the disbelievers enters into Islam. Thus those who say that when the disbeliever enters into Islam the ghusul is an obligation upon him they hold the view that the person who begins to pray again must make ghusul. As for those who say that it is not obligatory for the disbeliever who enters into Islam to make ghusul, they say it is not obligatory for this person to make ghusul. And there is no doubt that it is better for the person to make ghusul as to exit from the difference of opinion between the scholars and to free himself from blame.

What to do if Imaam breaks wudhu whilst leading the people in the Prayer? Answered by Shaykh Muhammad 'Abdul Wahab al-Banna رحمه الله رحمة واسعة

1/19/19, 8:28 PM

Q. If the Imam passes wind whilst prostrating what does he do, does he drag the one behind him whilst he is prostrating?

Shaykh Muhammad al-Banna  رحمه الله, laughs and say how?! Rather, he gets up and says I have broken my wudu and then he puts forward one that is directly behind him. Then he goes and performs the wudu (ablution) again.

Whoever intended to pray Qiyaam al-Layl but slept in & missed it unintentionally...

Summary: Whoever intended to pray Qiyaam al-Layl but slept in & missed it unintentionally, he makes it up by praying it with one additional rakah after sunrise (Dhuhaa time). The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم used to pray 12 rakahs in such a case.( Saheeh Muslim)

So to be clear: If he intended to pray 11, he prays 12 in the morning, to compensate for missing it. If he intended to pray 3 but missed it, he prays 4 in the morning, and so on

Do you pray without moving your tongue or lips? The [Permanent] Committee [for issuing Fatwás] says in Fatwá no. 15299.

It is obligatory upon the one praying to move his tongue and his lips while reciting, and the recitation [of] the heart [alone] does not suffice.

Not performing Sujud on the seven organs | Fatwas of Nur ‘Ala Al-Darb

Q: I notice that some people perform Sujud (prostration) without using all the seven organs that should be used in Sujud. I hope that you will draw their attention to that. May Allah reward you with the best.

(Part No.9; Page No. 427)

A: All Muslims should perform Sujud using the seven organs: the face, forehead, nose, hands, knees  and the edges of the two feet (i.e., toes), as doing so is authentically reported from the Prophet (peace be upon him) who said: <<I  have been  commanded  to perform Sujud on seven bones: on the forehead -  and he pointed to his nose – both hands, both knees and the edges of both feet (i.e., the toes).>> All Muslims, men and women, should be keen on performing that as it is one of the necessary Rukns (integral pillars) of Salah (Prayer). Therefore, it is impermissible to be linient  in that matter. The worshipper should perform Sujud on these seven organs in all of the Faridah (obligatory) and Nafilah (supererogatory) Salahs because the Salah of whoever intentionally does not perform this is Batil (null and void). If the worshipper forgets to do that in their Salah and was able to do it at once, they should do so. If they have not remembered until the following Rak’ah (unit of Prayer), they should offer another Rak’ah instead of it. The second Rak’ah compensates for the previous one in which they have not performed Sujud on one or two of the seven organs. Therefore, Sujud should  be performed using all the seven organs, and it is impermissible to leave any of these organs in Sujud either in Faridah or in Nafilah Salah. If the worshipper forgets and raises his hands and does not perform Sujud on it or on either of their knees, then they remember while performing the following Rak’ah, they should perform another Rak’ah instead of it and perform Sujud-ul-Sahw (Prostration of Forgetfulness) before Taslim (salutation of peace ending the Prayer).

Ruling on sitting with a son who does not offer Salah

Ruling on sitting with a son who does not offer Salah

Q: A mother asks about the religious ruling on sitting with her son who does not offer Salah. What is your advice in this regard? May Allah reward you with the best.

A: She should decide the best possible way to treat him; if eating and sitting with this son will help her advise him to observe the religious obligation and perform Salah, she should do her best to achieve that. However, if this way is useless and has no effect on him, she should not eat or sit with him. She should also seek the help of other relatives and righteous people to guide him to the right way or deter him from his wrong way. May Allah save us from this vice. All Muslims should care for and attend the congregationalprayers and the Friday Prayer.

Ruling on Salah of a woman whose hair shows unintentionally

Q: If after finishing the Zhuhr (Noon) Prayer, for example, I  discovered that part of my hair was uncovered, should I repeat the Salah (Prayer) or should I repeat the last two Rak’ahs (units of Prayer) in which I discovered  that my hair showed? May Allah reward you with the best!

A: This matter can be detailed as follows. If a few hairs become uncovered and you do not know about that until after finishing Salah, then there is nothing wrong and your Salah is valid. But if a large part of your head shows, then it is better to repeat the Salah to be on the safe side.

(Part No.7; Page No. 268)

Q: A female questioner from Jizan district says: When I was performing Sujud (prostration) in Zhuhr Prayer, my son uncovered my whole head by pulling the head cover, but I took it and put it immediately on my head and continued with the Salah? Is my Salah valid?

A: Yes, if you put on the head cover straightaway, then there is no problem and the Salah is valid, Al-hamdu lillah (All praise is due to Allah).

Is performing Witr (Prayer with an odd number of units) obligatory?

(Part No. 7; Page No. 172)

The second question of Fatwa no. 6755

Q 2: Is performing Witr (Prayer with an odd number of units) obligatory and is it sinful to only perform intermittently?

A: Witr is a stressed Sunnah that a believer should maintain. Anyone who performs intermittently  is not sinful, but they are advised to observe it regularly. It is permissible to perform Shaf’ (Prayer with an even number of units) during the daytime in a place of a missed Witr, because the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to do so. It is authentically reported on the authority of ‘Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: <If sleep or illness prevented the Prophet (peace be upon him) from Salat-ul-Layl (optional Prayer at night), he would offer twelve Rak’ahs during the daytime.> (Related by Muslim in his Sahih) The Prophet (peace be upon him) would, most times, perform eleven Rak’ahs during the night, offering Taslim after every two, and would conclude them with a single Rak’ah as Witr. If sleep or illness prevented him from doing so, he (peace be upon him) would offer twelve Rak’ahs during the daytime as ‘Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported. Accordingly, if a Muslim is accustomed to perform  five Rak’ahs at night and is prevented from doing so by sleep or any other impediment , they may perform six Rak’ahs in the daytime, offering  Taslim after every two. The same applies if they are accustomed to performing three Rak’ahs, they may perform four  Rak’ahs, performing  Taslim after every two.

(Part No. 7; Page No. 173)

If they are accustomed to performing seven Rak’ahs, they may perform eight Rak’ahs, offering Taslim  after every two.

May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and Companions.

Regarding the mark on the forehead cause by Sujud

Q: Has it been reported regarding the mark on the forehead which is caused by Sujud that it is a mark of the righteous?

A: This is not a mark of the righteous; the mark of the righteous is only the light which is seen in the face, the expansion of the heart, good character and such like. As for the mark on the face which is cause by Sujud, it might be seen on the faces of those who only offer the obligatory prayers due to the delicateness of their skin, and it might not be seen in the face of one who prays much and lengthens his Sujud.

Shaykh Fawzān: Giving charity to someone suspected to be on drugs & they pray

Shaykh Sālih Al-Fawzān (رحمه الله) was asked:

A poor man who is accused of using drugs, is it permissible for me to give him charity, bearing in mind that he prays?

He responded:

Give him charity, but advise him as well. Say to him: “Do not use this to buy drugs, I do not allow you to do this. Rather, you must spend it on your needs, poverty and children.”

Way of reciting the Ever-Glorious Qur'an during Salah -Fatwas of Ibn Baz

Way of reciting the Ever-Glorious Qur'an during Salah

After Du’a’-ul-Istiftah (opening supplication when starting the Prayer), a  person should say: “A’udhu-Billahi mina Al-Shaytan-ir-Rajim [I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan]” “Bismillah Al-Rahman, Al-Rahim [In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful]” Then, they should recite the Fatihah: < In the Name of Allâh, the  Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.> < All the  praises and thanks be to Allâh, the Lord of the ‘Alamin (mankind, jinn and all  that exists).> < The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.>  < The Only Owner (and the Only Ruling Judge) of the Day of Recompense (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) > < You (Alone) we worship, and You (Alone) we ask for help (for each and everything).> <Guide us to the Straight Way.> < The  Way of those  on whom You  have bestowed Your Grace, not (the way) of those who earned Your anger (i.e. those  who knew the Truth,  but did not follow it) nor of  those who went astray (i.e. those who did not follow the Truth out of ignorance and  error).> Then they should say  Amen, which is not  part of the Fatihah, but it is Mustahab (desirable) to say it. The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to say, after  the Fatihah in the Jahri Salah (Prayer recited out loud) and the Sirri Salah (Prayer with subvocal recitation), Amen,  which means “O Allah answer  our supplications.”

Then they should recite whatever they know of the Qur’an after the Fatihah in the first and second Rak’ahs (units of Prayer) of the Zhuhr (Noon) Prayer, ‘Asr (Afternoon) Prayer, Maghrib (Sunset) Prayer, ‘Isha’ (Night) Prayer and the two Rak’ahs of the Fajr (Dawn) Prayer, where one recites the Fatihah  and then a short Surah (Qur’anic chapter) or some ayas (Qur’anic verses). However, it is better to recite the medium length Surahs of Mufassal (the last 65-70 chapters of the Qur’an), during Zhuhr prayer, such as Surah Al-Ghashiyah: < Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)? Or Surah Al-Layl: < By the night as it envelops.> or Surah ‘Abasa: < (The Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم) frowned and turned away. Or Surah Al-Shams: < When the sun is wound round and its light is lost  and is overthrown.> or Surah Al-Infitar: < When the heaven is cleft asunder.> And the like.

During ‘Asr Prayer, a person may recite shorter Surahs as well as during the Maghrib Prayer, they may recite, after the Fatihah, what they know of such Surahs or shorter, and if they sometimes recite longer Surahs, it is better, for the Messenger (peace be upon him)sometimes recited, during the Maghrib Prayer, the Surah of Al-Tur or Al-Mursalat and he sometimes recited the Surah of Al-‘A’raf after dividing it into two parts over the first two Rak’ahs.

However, the Prophet used to recite, in the Maghrib Prayer, the shorter Surahs of Mufassal such as the Surah of Al-Ghashiyah: < Has there come to you the narration  of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)? Or Surah Al-Balad: < I swear by this city (Makkah);> or Zurah Al-Zalzalah: < When the earth is shaken > or Surah Al-Qari’ah or Al-‘Adiyat and he would sometimes recite longer surahs than that as we said before.

During the ‘Isha’ Prayer, a person may recite the same as they did during the Zhuhr and the ‘Asr; they should recite the Fatihah  and, in the first and second Rak’ahs, a short Surah such as Al-Buruj, < By the heaven  holding the big stars.> Al-Tariq, < By the heaven, and At-Tariq (the night-comer, i.e. the bright star);> Al-Ghashiyah, < Has there come to you the narration  of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)?> ‘Abasa, < (The Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم) frowned and turned away.> Al-Shams < When the sun is wound round and its light is lost and is overthrown.> And similar Surahs or some  Ayahs adding up to the same number in the first and second Rak’ahs.

Similarly, during the Fajr Prayer, a person may recite, after the Fatihah, a Surah  much longer than that in the Zhuhr, ‘Asr, Maghrib and ‘Isha’. After the Fatihah during the Fajr Prayer, a person may recite  Surah Qaf: < Qâf. [These letters (Qâf, etc.) are one of the miracles of the Qur’ân, and none but Allâh (Alone) knows their  meanings]. By the Glorious  Qur’ân.> Surah Al-Qamar: < The Hour has drawn near > or a shorter Surah such as Al-Taghabun, Al-Saf or Tabarak: < Blessed be He in Whose Hand is the dominion > or Al-Muzzammil: < O you wrapped in garments (i.e. Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم)!> During Fajr Prayer, it is  better to recite a longer than that recited during the Zhuhr, ‘Asr, Maghrib and ‘Isha’, following the example  of the Prophet (peace be upon him). However, there is nothing wrong  if a person recites shorter or longer Surahs sometimes, for it was authentically reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) recited at times shorter Surah in the Fajr Prayer. However, to recite long Surahs  frequently during the Fajr is better so as to follow the example of the Prophet (peace be upon him).

As for the third and fourth Rak’ahs in the Zhuhr, ‘Asr, ‘Isha’ and the third Rak’ah in the Maghrib, one should recite  only the Fatihah, then say: “Allahu Akbar [Allah is the Greatest]” and perform Ruku ‘ (bowing). However, it was reported that the Prophet  (peace be upon him) would sometimes recite, during the Zhuhr Prayer after the Fatihah, a short Surah in the third and the fourth Rak’ahs. Accordingly, if a person does the same, it is good as they would thus follow the example of the Prophet  (peace be upon him). This is the way of reciting the Ever-Glorious Qur’an during Salah.

If forgetting to recite Surah Al-Fatihah,what one should do? - Fatwas of the Permanent Committee

Q 1: Is it permissible to offer Salah (Prayer) without reciting Surah Al-Fatihah due to forgetting it and only remembering about it after saying the Taslim (salutation of peace ending the Prayer) or should I offer the Salah again?

A: If someone forgets to recite Surah Al-Fatihah in any Rak’ah (unit of Prayer, whether while being an Imam (the one who leads congregational Prayer) or offering the Salah individually, and remembers while they are still praying, before starting the next Rak’ah they should go back and recite it and then perform the Ruku’ (bowing) and then the Sujud (prostration). If they do not remember until after starting the next Rak’ah, then the Rak’ah in which they forgot to recite Al-Fatihah is Batil (null and void) and the Rak’ah following it will replace it. If they do not remember until after saying the Taslim, they should rise and offer a full Rak’ah and then perform Sujud-ul-Sahw (Prostration of Forgetfulness), in all these cases, before saying the Taslim. If they only remember a long time after they had said the Taslim, then they should repeat the whole Salah. If they are Ma’mums (person being led by an Imam in Prayer), then the Imam bears the responsibility, whether this was done out of ignorance of the ruling or out of forgetfulness.

May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and Companions.

Delaying the Isha Prayer

Question:

What is the ruling on delaying the Isha prayer until a late hour?

Answer:

It is better for the Isha prayer to be delayed to its later time. The more it is delayed, the better, unless it be for a man because if a man delays it, he misses the congregational prayer, and it is not permissible for him to delay it and miss the congregational prayer. As for the women in their houses, the more they delay the Isha prayer, the better it is for them, but they should not delay it past midnight.

Sitting between the two Sajdahs - Fatwas of Ibn Baz

Sitting between the two Sajdahs

One should raise one’s head from Sujud (prostration) saying Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest) and rest the outside of the left foot flat on the ground and sit on it keeping the right foot upright with the right hand placed open on the right thigh or knee and the left hand placed open on the left thigh or knee. One should then say:

Rabbi ighfirli, rabbi ighfirli, rabbi ighfirli (O Allah! Forgive me! O Allah!Forgive me! O Allah Forgive me!). ”The Messenger of Allah used to say this. It is also recommended to add the following Du’a (supplication): “Allahumma ighfirli warhamni wahdini wajburni warzuqni wa’afini ( O Allah! Forgive me, have mercy upon me, guide me, console me, provide me with sustenance, and grant me good health).” This Du’a was authentically reported from the Prophet (peace be upon him). There is no wrong if other formulas of Du’a’ are added like saying:” Allahumma ighfirli waliwalidayya, allahumma ad-khilni aljannah wa anjini mina annar, allahumma aslih qalbi wa’mali (O Allah, forgive me and my parents, O Allah, admit me into Paradise and save me from  the Fire! O Allah, rectify my erring heart and bless my deeds…etc). ”Upon the sitting position  between the two Sajdahs (prostrations), one  should recite formulas of seeking forgiveness repeatedly as has been reported from the Prophet (peace be upon him).
