“A slave of Allah may utter a word which pleases Allah without giving it much importance, and because of that Allah will raise him in degrees...”

It is reported in the two saheehs from the hadeeth of Abu Hurairah (radiyallāhu ʿanhu) who said that Allah’s Messenger (salallāhu ʿalaihi wasallam) said:

إِنَّ الْعَبْدَ لَيَتَكَلَّمُ بِالْكَلِمَةِ مِنْ رِضْوَانِ اللَّهِ لاَ يُلْقِي لَهَا بَالاً يَرْفَعُ اللَّهُ بِهَا دَرَجَاتٍ وَإِنَّ الْعَبْدَ لَيَتَكَلَّمُ بِالْكَلِمَةِ مِنْ سَخَطِ اللَّهِ لاَ يُلْقِي لَهَا بَالاً يَهْوِي بِهَا فِي جَهَنَّمَ

“A slave of Allah may utter a word which pleases Allah without giving it much importance, and because of that Allah will raise him in degrees—and a slave of Allah may utter a word (carelessly) which displeases Allah without thinking of its gravity and because of that he will be thrown into the Hell-Fire.”

A Righteous Wife Is...

 

Imām ‘Abdul-‘Azīz ibn Bāz رحمه الله said:

A righteous wife is one who is steadfast upon the commands of Allāh. She guards her Prayers by praying them at the correct times. She keeps herself far away from displaying her beautification when  she goes out to the marketplaces. She is well known for her fine conduct, appearance and behaviour. This is the righteous wife.

The Excellence of the Ten of Dhul-Hijjah

Ibn ‘Abbās (radiyallāhu ‘anhumā) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (wassalallāhu ‘alaihi allam) said:

مَا مِنْ أَيَّامٍ الْعَمَلُ الصَّالِحُ فِيهَا أَحَبُّ إِلَى اللَّهِ مِنْ هَذِهِ الأَيَّامِ ” . يَعْنِي أَيَّامَ الْعَشْرِ . قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَلاَ الْجِهَادُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ قَالَ ” وَلاَ الْجِهَادُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ إِلاَّ رَجُلٌ خَرَجَ بِنَفْسِهِ وَمَالِهِ فَلَمْ يَرْجِعْ مِنْ ذَلِكَ بِشَىْءٍ 

“There are no days during which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten,” meaning the ten of Dhul-Hijjah. They said: “O Messenger of Allah, not even Jihād in Allah’s cause?” He replied: “Not even Jihād in Allah’s cause, except for the man who left out with life and his wealth and does not return back.” (Abu Dawud, no. 2438 and graded saheeh by Al-Albāni)

وَمَا نُرْسِلُ بِٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ إِلَّا تَخْوِيفًا - “And We sent not the signs except to warn and to make them afraid (of Allah’s punishment).” (al-Isrā: 59)

Ibn Al-Qayyim (may Allah’s mercy be upon him) said:

“Sometimes, Allah permits the earth  to take a breath and due to that there befalls on the earth great earthquakes-and as a consequence of that His servants become afraid and fearful, they turn to Him in repentance and they abandon sin and disobedience – they humble themselves before Him in humility , and they feel remorse, as one of the Pious Predecessors said when the earth shook with an earthquake, ‘Indeed  your Lord is admonishing you!’ And when Madinah was shaken by an earthquake, Umar Ibn Al-Khattāb (Allah be pleased with him) addressed the people and admonished them, saying , ‘If it happens again , I will not live among you in  Madinah.”*

* Ibn Abī Dunyā reported: “An earthquake struck in the time of ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with him), so he said: ‘O people! This earthquake did not occur except due to some transgression you have committed! By the One in whose Hand is my soul, if it strikes again, I will not live in this city with you, ever.”

(Ibn Abī Shaybah in al-Musannaf no. 2/473, and al-Bayhaqi in his as-Sunan 3/342—and its chain of narration is sahīh).

Al-Bayhaqi reported from Mujāhid that,

 “Once the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah began, Sa’eed bin Jubayr (radiyallāhu ‘anhu) would exert himself in obedience to Allah such that it was almost beyond his capacity.”

إِنَّ أَوَّلَ مَا يُحَاسَبُ النَّاسُ بِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مِنْ أَعْمَالِهِمُ الصَّلاَةُ قَالَ يَقُولُ رَبُّنَا جَلَّ وَعَزَّ لِمَلاَئِكَتِهِ وَهُوَ

أَعْلَمُ انْظُرُوا فِي صَلاَةِ عَبْدِي أَتَمَّهَا أَمْ نَقَصَهَا فَإِنْ كَانَتْ تَامَّةً كُتِبَتْ لَهُ تَامَّةً وَإِنْ كَانَ انْتَقَصَ مِنْهَا

شَيْئًا قَالَ انْظُرُوا هَلْ لِعَبْدِي مِنْ تَطَوُّعٍ فَإِنْ كَانَ لَهُ تَطَوُّعٌ قَالَ أَتِمُّوا لِعَبْدِي فَرِيضَتَهُ مِنْ تَطَوُّعِهِ ثُمَّ

تُؤْخَذُ الأَعْمَالُ عَلَى ذَاكُمْ

“The first matter that the people will be called to account for on the Day of Judgement from their deeds will be the Prayer. Our Lord, the Exalted, will say to the angels, though He knows better: ‘Look into the prayer of My servant and see whether he has offered it perfectly or deficiently.’ If it is perfect, it will be recorded as perfect. If it is deficient, He will say: ‘See if there are some optional prayers offered by My servant.’ If he has optional prayers, Allah will say: ‘Compensate the obligatory Prayers with the optional Prayers for My servant.’ Then all the actions will be accounted similarly.”

“How will you be when you are enveloped by fitan (tribulations) – a time  when the child will become old and the elderly will become  decrepit – such that when one avoids tribulations  (innovations and misguidance), it will be said, “The Sunnah has been abandoned.”’

It was said: “When will that happen O father of ‘Abdur-Rahmān?” Ibn Mas’ood replied: “When your scholars pass away, your ignorant are numerous, your reciters are many, your scholars are few, your leaders are numerous, the trustworthy amongst you are few and the world is sought by the deeds of the Hereafter – and religious understanding is sought for other than the Religion.”

[Saheeh; reported by ad-Dārimee, 191-192; Shaikh Al-Albānee said in Qiyām Ramadān p.3: “It is authentic as the statement of Ibn Mas’ood and its ruling, it is elevated to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم.”]

Obligation of Obedience to the Ruler even if they are sinful

 

Ibn Abī ‘Āsim reported in As-Sunnah (2/508) from ‘Adiyy Ibn Hātim (may Allah be pleased with him) that we said:

“O Messenger of Allah, we do not ask you regarding obedience to the ruler who has taqwā (who is pious and who fears Allah), and is good and rectifies. Rather, we are asking about the ruler who does such-and-such and such-and-such?” And he mentioned their evil traits. So the Prophet (ﷺ) answered: “Fear Allah! Listen to the ruler and obey him.”(Also reported by At-Tabarāni in Al-Kabīr, 17/101 , and authenticated by Al-Albāni in Dhilāl Al-Jannah)

If the aim is to keep them as memories – then for that purpose it is harām. And hanging them on walls is harām – and the Angels do not enter a home that has images.

Allah, the Most High, said:

وَمَن يُطِعِ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلرَّسُولَ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ مَعَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَنْعَمَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِم مِّنَ ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ وَٱلصِّدِّيقِينَ وَٱلشُّهَدَآءِ وَٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ ۚ وَحَسُنَ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ رَفِيقًۭا

“Whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger―they will be with those on whom Allah has bestowed His Grace and Favour from among the Prophets, the truthful who aided the truth, the martyrs and the righteous―how excellent these companions are!” (An-Nisā’: 69)

A’ishah (radiyallāhu ‘anhā) said: A man came to the Prophet (salallāhu ‘alaihi wasallam) and said: “O Messenger of Allāh! You are more beloved to me than my wife, my wealth, my property and my son. I was in my home and thought about you and I was not able to be patient until I had come to you and saw you. And when I think of my death and your death, I know when you enter Jannah, you will be raised to the levels of the Prophets (‘alaihimus-salām). And if I enter Paradise, I fear that I will not see you.” So the Prophet (salallāhu ‘alaihi wasallam) did not answer him with anything until Jibreel (‘alaihis-salām) descended with this Āyah: “Whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, they will be with those on whom Allah has bestowed His Grace and Favour…”^[1]

[1] Reported by At-Tabarāni Al-Mu’jam As-Sagheer 1/26; Al-Haythami said in Majma’ Az-Zawā’id (7/7) that all the narrators are narrators of Sahīh Al-Bukhāri except Abdullāh bin ‘Imrān and he is trustworthy (thiqah). And this narration is supported by the hadeeth of Ibn ‘Abbās cited in Majma’ Az-Zawā’id (7/7) and that has in its chain ‘Atā bin As-Sā’ib and he used to mix up narrations. Imām Muqbil Al-Wādi’i stated in his book, As-Saheeh Al-Musnad min Asbāb an-Nuzool (pp. 70-71): It has been reported by Abu Nu’aym in Al-Hilyah (4/240, 8/125) and Al-Wāhidi in Asbāb an-Nuzool with this chain of narration―and Ash-Shawkāni stated: Al-Maqdisi declared the narration to be hasan and it has support as mentioned in the Tafseer of Ibn Katheer (1/523) that strengthens its validity.
