How Do we Understand the Actions of some of the Salaf in Advising the Ruler Publicly?

How Do we Understand the Actions of some of the Salaf in Advising the Ruler Publicly?

Question:

Noble Shaykh, how do we reconcile between the statement of the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam), “Whosoever desires to advise the ruler, then let him not do so publicly,” to the end of the hadeeth, and between the action of some of the Scholars of the Salaf in opposing the rulers publicly, such as Sa’eed Ibn Jubayr (d.95H), al-’Izz Ibn ’Abdus-Salaam (d.660H) and other than them. And may Allaah reward you with goodness.

 Answer:

Firstly: With regards to the advise that is specific to the rulers of the Muslims whom Allaah has obligated upon their constituents that they obey them, respect them and supplicate for them privately and in public, as long as they offer the Prayer and keep the streets safe and carry out the prescribed punishments. So there is advice for them and there is enjoinment and prohibition for them in accordance with whatever is appropriate for their situation, their reality and their position. And this is what is indicated by the hadeeth. As for what has emanated from the two that have been mentioned by the questioner, then it does not amount to evidence that every person who desires to enjoin and prohibit can traverse the path of these two – rahimahumallaah. So the incidents that occurred from Sa’eed Ibn Jubayr (d.95H) and from al-’Izz Ibn ’Abdus-Salaam (d.660H), then the questioner does not know about the causes and the surrounding conditions that initially led them to advise openly.

Secondly: Let us suppose that the advice occurred publicly from the two aforementioned ones. However, the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) said, “then let him not do so publicly.” Which of the two statements has more right to be followed: the statement of the infallible Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam), and it is an authentic hadeeth, or the statement of an individual itjihaad from one of the people of al-ijtihaad who erred?! So he will not be excluded from a reward if Allaah so wills, and he will be forgiven for the error. So this principle is, “When there has come a hadeeth, or there has come a text from the generality of the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam), and there has also come a statement from some of the Scholars opposing this text, then precedence is to be given to the confirmed text from Allaah and the confirmed text from the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) and we seek an excuse for the one who is from the people of al-itjihaad and has opposed the text.” As for the one who is not from the people of al-ijtihaad, but he puts himself forward and boldly becomes involved along with a group of mujtahideen whilst he has not mastered the formative elements of al-ijtihaad, then this one has committed a crime against himself and he has committed a crime against other than himself. And the extent of this crime could be restricted or it could be unrestricted. So the point of this is that there is no contradiction or conflict between the action of two individuals and the statement of the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam), “So do not do so publicly, but take him by his hand and take him into privacy. So if he accepts his advice, then he has achieved his objective. And if he refuses, then he has offered that which was upon him.” [1]

We praise Allaah the Mighty and Majestic that this is the correct path which the Scholars of the Salaf and their followers in every time from amongst the times agreed with due to their knowledge and understanding of the proofs in every topic from amongst the topics of knowledge and action. And this is a great blessing and it is from the justice of the Salafee manhaj. So he is devoid of this blessing and he is not successful with it, because he has not sought it truthfully and he has not traversed its paths. So it is upon us to strive hard in attaining knowledge, understanding and information and to take from the Scholars who have firm, sagacious and correct understandings. And we must abandon the affair of these ijtihaadaat which are only from the aspect of interpretations and from the aspect of deceptions. That is because the student in middle school, high school, or at the university level has no right to speak with ijtihaad, until he firmly plants his feet in the knowledge, takes from the Scholars and comes to know the limits of ijtihaad. Then, once the people of authority have testified that he is from amongst the people of al-ijtihaad, then he may speak concerning the issues in which ijtihaad is correct. If not, then no.

Preserve the prayer if you love yourself and want to be safe from the hellfire!

Al-Allaamah Zaid ibn Muhammad Al-Madkhali (May Allaah have mercy on him) said:

Preserve the prayer if you love yourself and want to be safe from the hellfire, which neither spares [any sinner], nor does it leave [anything unburnt]!

And seek – [by way of the prayer] – a blessed life in the dunya; a life of light in the grave, and a life of bliss and eternity in paradise in presence of the generous Lord [Allaah].

Absolute Safety Is Found In The Path Of The Salaf And Beware Of Ahlul Bidah! – Shaykh Al-Allaamah Zaid Ibn Muhammad Al-Madkhali (rahimahullah)

Al-Allaamah Zaid Ibn Muhammad Al-Madkhali ( May Allah have mercy on him ) said :

“And beware! Beware of falling into innovation and mixing [with] its people, and beware of listening to their deceptive [statements] and arguments because it is a disease. Indeed safety- absolute safety- is found in clinging to the Quran and Sunnah based on the correct understanding- the [understanding] of the Salafus Saaleh [the righteous predecessors], which cannot be attained except by way of ernest effort and striving in seeking understanding of the religion, with the righteous intention, wisdom [in the manner of] attaining and conveying [it].”

Advice of al-’Allaamah Zayd Ibn Muhammad al-Madkhalee (رحمه الله) to One of His Sons

Advice of al-’Allaamah Zayd Ibn Muhammad al-Madkhalee to One of His Sons

Collected Writings of Shaykh Zayd al-Madkhalee

With the Name of Allaah, the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

To the honorable, Abee Haatim ’Alee Ibn Zayd al-Madkhalee – may Allaah guide him to that which He is pleased with.

May the peace, mercy and blessings of Allaah be upon you…

After the greeting:

I pray that you remain upon the guidance and the right way in terms of knowledge and action throughout life and after death.  My advice to myself and to you is:

Firstly: Be from the strangers (ghurabaa‘) who remain upright when the people have become corrupt.

Secondly: Safeguard with all concern and care the congregational and Friday Prayers.

Thirdly: Leave your beard and let it grow as an establishment of the obligation (waajib) and a revival of the Sunnah of the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) and as an opposition to the enemies of the Religion of Islaam.  Keep in mind that we do not know whether our life will be long or short, so what is important is a good end with good deeds.

Fourthly: Abandon the wearing of European clothing and how the westerners wear their hair.  Wear the qamees (i.e. thawb) and keep the pants above the ankles.  You will live in righteousness and tranquility and you will die – if Allaah so wills – happy, pleased with Allaah and having attained His pleasure.

Fifthly: Take control of the tongue and imprison it, except for the remembrance of Allaah and whatever that entails and whatever is necessary to say.

Sixthly: Safeguard something from the remembrances of the morning and the evening because they are an invulnerable fortress against calamities and destruction.  It is necessary for the servant who is weak to seek recourse to His Lord who is strong.  So he seeks refuge with His Protection.

Seventhly: Safeguard the time that you are at work and observe excellent manners within the bounds of the Sharee’ah, with your superiors as well as your colleagues, you will attain the goodness of this life and the Hereafter.  Good character will bring about almost all forms of goodness.

Lastly: Take account of giving precedence to Allaah, and give precedence to that which will bring you closer to Him and cause Him to be pleased with you.

And Allaah is the best Guardian and He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy.

And may the peace, mercy and blessings of Allaah be upon you…

Your father who fell short with regards to your right,
Zayd Ibn Muhammad al-Madkhalee

Saying Bismillah before pouring hot water - Shaykh Zaid Al Madkhali رحمه الله

Saying Bismillah before pouring hot water

Answered by: Shaykh Zaid Al Madkhali

Question: Is it authentic, that it is correct for us to say, Bismillah (In the Name of Allah) when pouring hot water in the sewage in order that we don’t burn the Jinn in the sewage?

Shaykh Zaid Al Madkhali:

Answer: At any rate; don’t pour hot water, don’t pour it in the sewage nor on the earth, don’t pour hot water. Because the earth is filled with inhabitants, so it is possible that it could fall upon the race of the Jinn or upon their young ones causing some of them to take revenge, consequently possessing the person. For this reason if someone wants to pour hot water let him cool it down with (cool) water until it becomes cold and is no longer harmful, then pour it in the sewage or somewhere else.

‘Whoever Loves to Meet Allah, then Allaah Loves to Meet him’ | Shaykh Zayd Al-Madkhali رَحِمَهُ الله

‘Whoever Loves to Meet Allah, then Allaah Loves to Meet him’

Shaykh Zayd Al-Madkhali رَحِمَهُ الله

On the authority of Abi Al-Zinaad, on the authority of Al-A’raj, on the authority of Abu Hurairah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah said: Allaah , exalted be He the Most High, said:

“If My slave loves to meet Me then I love to meet him, and if he dislikes to meet Me then I dislike to meet him.”

Shaykh Zayd Al-Madkhali رَحِمَهُ الله

“And this is specific to the time of (being at) the brink of death. Close to the appointed time (of death). The  believer is in a state of delightfulness. The angels give him glad tidings. The angels descend upon him and give him glad tidings. So he loves to meet Allaah. And the intended meaning  of this is not at a time of wellbeing and the ability to choose. For the mother of the believers, ‘Aaisha, may Allaah be pleased with her said: “We all dislike death.” (Then) he said: “The affair is not that, but rather it is at the time of (being at) the brink of death.”Whoever loves to meet Allaah at that time then Allaah loves to meet him. And the believer loves to meet Allaah at that time (i.e the brink of death) due to what he sees from good and what he feels from the sensations. In which  Allaah, عزوَ جل said:

تَتَنَزَّلُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ أَلَّا تَخَافُوا وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا وَأَبْشِرُوا بِالْجَنَّةِ الَّتِي كُنتُمْ تُوعَدُونَ

“…on them the angels will descend (at the time of their death) (saying): “Fear not, nor grieve! But receive the glad tidings of Paradise which you have been promised!”

نَحْنُ أَوْلِيَاؤُكُمْ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ

“We have been your friends in the life  of this world and are (so) in the Hereafter…” [41: 30-31]

Those verses.

And this is what makes him (i.e. the believer) love to meet  Allaah. As for the people of wrongdoing (and sin) then, in that instance, they do not love to meet Allaah because they will not be given tidings of anything except torment and punishments in both the grave and the hereafter. So he does not love to meet Allaah but rather he dislikes it and Allaah dislikes to meet him. And that is not except that the recompense from Allaah is relative  to the kind of action (performed). Such as the one who increase in performing righteous good deeds and persists upon them, then  Allaah will make him firm. And the Angels descend upon him at every time from the times of difficulty and need, and the greatest time of need is at the brink of death. So this Hadeeth is understood to be (in relation to) this time (i.e. the time of being at the brink of death).

Be Good to Your Father - by al-ʿAllāmah Zayd ibn Muhammad al-Madkhali [D.1435 AH]

www.Masjidashshura.org/

Be Good to Your Father

On the authority of Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar may Allāh be pleased with him, who said that the Prophet said:

The Pleasure of Allāh lies in the pleasure of the father and the Displeasure of Allāh lies in the displeasure of the father.

Shaykh Zayd Al-Madkhalī said:

In this Hadīth there is clarification of the displeasure of Allāh being brought about by the displeasure of the father for his disrespectful child, male or female. This is only due to that which he (the father) has from rights. The father was the means for the existence of the child by way of seeking marriage with his/her mother. He is responsible for the caretaking, and upbringing of the child within the cradle, in childhood, and thereafter. The father cares for his child even when he becomes an adult. The care for the childs never stops. Due to this, the Pleasure of Allāh is brought about for the one who is good to his/her father and His displeasure is brought about due to the disrespect of the child. Because the reward with Allāh will be in proportion to the action. It is known that the father in his right mind will be pleased by any act of kindness from his child, even it may be small.

Should Small (Incapable) Students be Debating Opposers? Sh.Zaid al-Madkhaly رحمه الله تعالى

Weak Individuals Debating Deviants Shaikh Zaid Al-Madkhaly رحمه الله

As for the small students of knowledge who are unable to establish the proofs upon the opposers and are not proficient in ability to refute them, then it is not permissible for them to sit with the ikhwaanies to debate and dispute them; rather it is upon them to avoid sitting with them to be safe from being affected by them due to their lack of knowledge and weakness of the hearts…and  upon them is to return back to the scholars of the legislation  and to their contemporaries from every salafi student of knowledge who’s source of knowledge is the noble legislation with the correct and wise understanding; not from opposing dreadful ideologies.

The Conditions of the Testimony “Muammad rasūl Allāh”
By Shaykh Zayd ibn Muammad al-Madkhalī

The First Condition: To acknowledge his Message (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) and to believe in it within the heart.

The Second Condition: To proclaim it and affirm it with the tongue.

The Third Condition: To follow him by acting upon whatever he came with; what he ordered, prohibited, made permissible and made impermissible.

The Fourth Condition: To believe in everything he informed us of from the matters of the unseen, both past and future.

The Fifth Condition: The love for him should be greater than the love for one’s self, children, parents, and all of the people.

The Sixth Condition: To put forth his statement over the statement of every other person and to act upon his Sunnah.

Shaikh Zaid Al-Madkhalī on What it Takes to Be a True Friend

Shaikh Zaid Al-Madkhalī on True Friendship

Shaikh Zaid Al-Madkhalī, may Allāh have mercy on him, said:

A true friend is one who helps  his brother as much as he can, even if [that were only] with some words of goodness and purity.

He helps him with advice for his soul, and when he forgets something, he reminds him, thereby fulfilling  the rights of friendship, especially with regard to religious matters – he reminds him, advises him sincerely [wanting good for him], and renders him whatever is considered good [in Islām].

So all of that is from being a true friend.

As for [one who,] when you forget, he does not remind you, and when you are in need, he does not help you, he has not fulfilled the rights of friendship, since he does not know its value and what it takes to be a true friend.
