What is Aqeeqah For The Newly Born?

Al-Allaamah Saaleh Al-Fawzaan (may Allaah preserve him) said:

One of the rights of the child upon his father is that he should slaughter a sacrifice for him.He should slaughter for the Aqeeqah on his behalf as an act of worship and thanks-giving to Allaah (The Most High). There is seeking nearness to Allaah and being thankful to Him in this (sacrifice) and there is good in it for the newly born because goodness is found in acts of worship. Therefore, he slaughters two sheep for the boy and one for the girl. This is an established Sunnah and there is goodness in it for the newly born. He (sallal-laahu –alayhi –wasallam) said: Every newly born is in pledge for his/her aqeeqah. (Reported by Abu Daawood no. 2831)

The sacrificial slaughter, shaving of the head and naming the child are to be done on the seventh day, and these are from the means of bringing about goodness for the new born. The expense for this is to be undertaken by the father.

How to deal with the Disobedient Elderly Person || Shaykh Abdur-Razzaq al-Badr

How to Deal With the Elderly Person Who Does Not Pray or Commits Acts of Disobedience

Question to Shaykh Abdur-Razzaaq Al-Badr:

“How is the elderly person dealt with, if he does not establish the prayer or if he commits some of the (acts) of disobedience?

Answer:

We know from what has preceded (i.e. in the lecture) that the elderly person has rights due to his old age; the rights of the elderly, even if he is not a Muslim, then how about the one who abandons the prayer completely?

This (person) is a disbeliever due to the saying of the Messenger (‘alayhi salat wasallam): “the covenant between us and them is the prayer, so whoever abandons it has disbelieved. “And the ahaadeeth regarding this affair are many.

*[Note: Listener/Reader: The scholars differ with regards to the affair of the person who abandons the Salaah out of laziness, as to whether he is a disbeliever or not; so refer to the different arguments of the scholars on the topic. See the arguments of Shaikh Uthaymeen, Shaykh Bin Baaz, Shaykh Al-Albaanee (rahimahumullaah)]

However, regardless of this (i.e. this elder’s abandonment of the prayer), the rights of the elderly remain; so he is shown kindness and is dealt with in accordance with what such rights necessitates, in winning over his heart, and with the hope that Allaah (Taabaraka Wata-Aalaa) will guide him and return him to correctness, especially  if he is a father or a near relative, then a person should deal with him  in the worldly life with goodness and kindness. In this also is winning over his heart, and perhaps Allaah (Subhaanahu wa ta’ala) will grant him guidance and success.

And we did come across (i.e. in the lecture) the saying of Allaah: “But if they (both) strive with you to make you join in worship with Me others that of which you have no knowledge, then  obey them not, but behave with them in the world kindly.” [Luqmaan: Ayah: 15].

He (Allaah) did not say: disrespect both of them, or cut off the relationship (between you and them), rather He said: “but behave with them in the world kindly.” So, (you) behave kindly even if he is a disbeliever or polytheist; and even if he is caller to polytheism and disbelief, the father is (still) treated with kindness, also the mother and the close relative; so that this kindness becomes a means to winning over his heart and to draw it close to the truth and goodness.

And if he is from the sinful believers, then also he is to be dealt with in a good way and at the same time give him advise with etiquettes, without raising oneself above him, arrogance or what is similar to that; rather you you advise him with etiquettes, gentleness and wise mannerisms, and perhaps Allaah (Tabaaraka-Wata-Aalaa) will bless him with  guidance and bestow him steadfastness.

The Ruling on Kissing the Head & Hands of Ones Parents

Originally posted on August 23, 2014 by saadburbank.com

Shaykh Abdul Azeez ibn Baaz rahimahullaah was asked:

Q: Before I go to school in the morning, I kiss the head and hand of my father and  mother. Is there any harm in that, in kissing the hand of ones father  or mother?

A: There is no problem in that inshaaAllaah; however leaving that some of the time is better. Not always, sometimes. Otherwise there is no problem  with that.

Asalaamu alaykum, does the same apply to if you a greeting someone (an elder) and it is customary to kiss their hand? If you can translate a fatwa on this that would be greatly appreciated. Jazaak Allaahu khayraa

Wa alaikumus Salaam wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh

Shaykh Muhammad bin Saalih al-`Uthaymeen rahimahullaah said: “There is no harm in kissing ones hand out of respect if they deserve respect; such as the father, or the elderly, or a teacher – unless harm is feared. And it is: that the one whose hand is being kissed becomes amazed with themselves, and sees themselves in a lofty position. In this case, we prevent such – due to this evil.”

See: Liqaa al-Baab al-Maftooh 30/177

Shaykh ibn Baaz rahimahullaah was asked:

“As for kissing the hand then a group from the people of knowledge held it to be disliked, especially if it was habitual. As for if a person were to do so occasionally during some meetings, then there is no harm in that – with a righteous man, or a righteous ruler, or ones father and the like – there is no problem with that. However making it ones customary practice is disliked, and some of the people of knowledge forbade that; if a person was used to always doing it when meeting. As for doing it sometimes then there is no harm in that. And as for prostrating on ones hand – such that a person prostrates on the hand by placing his forehead upon the hand – then this is something forbidden. This is something the people of knowledge call ‘the minor prostration’. This is not permissible; that a person puts his forehead upon another person’s hand and prostrates upon it, no. However kissing it with his mouth – if it is not habitual – rather it was something rare and uncommon, then there is no harm. Because it is reported from the Prophet sallAllaahu `alaihi wa sallam that some of the Companions kissed his hand and his foot. Some of the Companions did that, so the affair is an easy one as long as it is something done in moderation. As for doing so out of habit all of the time then it is disliked or forbidden…”

I have two wives, must I slaughter two animals for Eidhul Adhaa?

Fataawa al Lajnatud Daaimah – No. 13766

I have two wives; must I slaughter an Udhiyyah (Eid sacrificial animal) for each household?

Q: I have two wives and each wife is in a separate house; although these two houses are next to each other and is only seperated by a wall and sometimes we all gather in one house and eat together. My question is, is it valid that I slaughter one Udhiyyah for both families or is it a must that there be an Udhiyyah for each household?

A: The Sunnah is that a man suffices with one Udhiyyah on behalf of himself and his family. That which proves this is what has been reported by Ammaarah ibn Abdillah who said: I heard ‘Ataa ibn Yasaar say: I asked Ayyub al Ansaaree radi Allahu Anhu, how was the slaughtering for the Eid in the time of the messenger of SallaAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam? He said “A man would slaughter a sheep on his behalf and on behalf of his household and they would eat from it and feed others until the people began to compete with one another and the affair became as you see now.” Reported by at Tirmidhee in his Jaami’, also see ‘Aaridatul Ahwadhee 6/304.

Furthermore, you being a person who has two wives in separate houses, both of them are considered from your household and one sheep is valid on behalf of you all. This is because the prophet SallaAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam slaughtered a ram (for Eid al Adhaa) on behalf of himself and on behalf of his household and the households of the prophet SallaAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam were numerous  and each of the homes of his wives  were separated from each other. And with Allah is the success, and may Allah’s prayers and salutations be upon our prophet Muhammad, his family, followers and companions.

Questioner:

Many a times I [try to] awake my wife for the Fajr prayer however she doesn’t get up, instead, she constantly performs the  prayer after sunrise. What is incumbent to do hereafter?

Shaykh āli ibn Fawzān al-Fawzān:

Her prayer is not accepted. If she does not get up to pray the Fajr prayer you should divorce her. She is not a Muslim. Those  who miss the Fajr prayer are not Muslims. If she repents, then Allah accept her repentance, so remain with her, otherwise, look for someone else.

Is it permissible for children to wear their garments below their ankles? Shaykh Shaykh Sālih al Fawzān حفظه الله

Question: What is the ruling upon young children lengthening/wearing their garments below their ankles?

Shaykh Sālih al Fawzān حفظه الله

Answer: It is not permissible for men/boys to wear their garments below their ankles, because this is ‘isbāl’ in relation to the male. The Prophet Salallaahu alayhi wa Sallam said, “That which is below the ankles is in the Fire.” (Al-Bukhārī)

As for the women, that which is requested from her, is to lengthen her garment in order to cover the feet and heels. It is required from her to loosen her garment from behind to the extent that it covers her heels. However, nowadays the affair has become the opposite. The men lengthen their garments below their ankles, and the women raise their garments and show their shins, or some of them show their legs/thighs, and this is from Shaytān.
