Allāh, the Most High says,
وَاذْكُر رَّبَّكَ إِذَا نَسِيتَ
“And
remember your Lord when you forget.”(Qur’ān 18:24)

Ibn Jarīr recorded that Yazīd bin Abi Maryam said:
“Umar, may Allāh be pleased with him, passed by Mu’ādh bin Jabal and asked,
‘What is the foundation of this Ummah?’ Mu’ādh said, “Three things, and they
are the things that will bring salvation: Al-Ikhlāṣ (doing a deed for Allāh alone), which is
the Fiṭrah with which Allāh
created mankind; Ṣalāh, which is the thing that tells a believer apart from a
disbeliever; and obedience, which is protection.’ ‘Umar said: ‘You have spoken
the truth.”

The Meaning of
Ibādah and Islām
Ibn
Kathīr (رَحِمَهُ اللهُ)
said:
Ibādah
is obedience to Allāh by acting upon
what He commands, abandoning what He forbids, and this is the reality and
essence of Islām. And the meaning of Islām is: Istislām (submission and
surrender) to Allāh (سُبحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) along with the utmost
compliance, humility, and submissiveness to Him.”

يَعْلَمُونَ ظَاهِرًا مِّنَ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَهُمْ عَنِ الْآخِرَةِ هُمْ غَافِلُونَ (7)
They know only the outer appearance of the life of the world, and they are heedless of the Hereafter.
Ibn ‘Abbās said, “This means that the disbelievers know how to prosper in this world, but
they are ignorant of matters of religion.”*

Question. Is the following statement from
backbiting where a person says, “I don’t like so and so’s recitation (of
Quran)” or So and so isn’t able to recite Quran well.”Is this backbiting?
Answer. It’s belittlement, yes. This is
belittlement of that person. He recited putting forth his best effort and
according to his ability. He did what he was able to do, so you should not put
him down for that.

Abu Al-ʿĀliyah commented on the Āyah:
إِنَّ
الصَّلَاةَ تَنْهَىٰ عَنِ الْفَحْشَاءِ وَالْمُنكَرِ ۗ
(Verily, the Ṣalāh prevents from
immoral sins and evil wicked deeds)
Prayer has three attributes, and any prayer that contains none of these attributes is not truly prayer:
Being done purely and sincerely for Allāh alone (Ikhlāṣ), fear of Allāh and
remembrance of Allāh. Ikhlāṣ makes a person do good deeds, fear prevents him from doing evil deeds, and the remembrance
of Allāh is the Qur’ān which contains commands and prohibitions.[1]

إِنَّمَا كَانَ قَوْلَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِذَا دُعُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ لِيَحْكُمَ بَيْنَهُمْ أَن يَقُولُوا سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا ۚ وَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ ۞(51)
51. The only saying of the faithful believers, when they are called to Allāh and His Messenger, to judge between them , is that they say: “We hear and we obey”. And such are the successful.
52. And whosoever obeys Allāh and His Messenger, fears Allāh, and has Taqwā of Him, such are the successful
... Allāh tells us about the attributes of the believers who respond to Allāh and His Messenger ﷺ and who seek no other way apart from the Book of Allāh and the Sunnah of His Messenger ﷺ.
Allāh says:
إِنَّمَا كَانَ قَوْلَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِذَا دُعُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ لِيَحْكُمَ بَيْنَهُمْ أَن يَقُولُوا سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا ۚ وَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ ۞ (51)
The only saying of the faithful believers, when they are called to Allāh and His Messenger, to judge between them , is that they say: “We hear and we obey”.
Meaning,
to hear to obey. Allāh describes them as
having attained success, which is
achieving what one wants and being saved from what one fears. So Allāh says:
وَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ
And such are the successful
Concerning
the Āyah:
أَن يَقُولُوا سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا
they say: “We hear and we obey”.
Qatādah said: “We were told
that when ‘Ubādah bin As-Sāmit,
who had been present at Al-‘Aqabah and
at Badr, and was one of the leaders of the Anṣār, was dying, he said to his nephew Junādah bin Abi
Umayyah: ‘Shall I not tell you what you
must do and what is your due?’ He said, ‘Yes.’ He said: ‘You have to listen and
obey when times are easy and when they are hard, when you feel energetic and
when you do not want to, and when you feel selfish. You have to train your
tongue to speak the truth. Do not go against those who are in authority, unless they openly command you to commit
acts of disobedience to Allāh. Whenever you are commanded to do something that
goes against the Book of Allāh, then follow the Book of Allāh. “(1)*
Qatādah said: We were told that Abu Ad-Dardā’ said, “There is no Islām except through obedience to Allāh, and no goodness except in Jamā’ah. Sincerity is to Allāh and His Messenger ﷺ, and to the Khalīfah and all the believers.” He said: “And we were told that ‘Umar bin Al-Khaṭṭab, may Allāh be pleased with him, used to say; ‘The bonds of Islām are Lā ilāha illallāh, establishing prayer, paying Zakāh and obeying those whom Allāh has given authority over the affairs of the Muslims.’” This was recorded by Ibn Abi Ḥātim.(2)*...
وَمَن يُطِعِ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ
And whosoever obeys Allāh and His Messenger,
in what he is commanded with, and avoid what he is forbidden,
وَيَخْشَ اللَّهَ
fears Allāh, means, for his past sins,
وَيَتَّقْهِ
And has Taqwā of Him, regarding sins
he may commit in the future.
فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْفَائِزُونَ
Such are the successful. means, those who will attain all goodness and be saved from all evil in this world and the Hereafter.

every grateful person.”

Saalih Al Fawzaan حَفِظَهُ الله وَرُعَاه said:
“This (ayah)
is a proof that just hope (in meeting Allaah and attaining paradise) alone is
not sufficient, it is a must that there is (righteous) action. As for you
hoping in Allaah however do not accompany it with (righteous ) deeds then you
have negated the reason (that will help you attain your meeting with Allaah).”

In the Ṣaḥīh it says:
أَنَّ اللهَ تَعَالَى يَطْوِي السَّمَوَاتِ بِيَمِينِهِ ،
وَيَأْخُذُ الْأَرَضِينَ بِيَدِهِ الْأُخْرَى ، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ: أَنَا الْمَلِكُ

Allāh, may He be
exalted, will fold up the heavens in His Right Hand, and will take the earths
in His other Hand, then He will say: “I am the Sovereign, I am the judge. Where
are the kings of the earth? Where are the tyrants? Where are the arrogants?”1

بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا 16

Allah the Exalted said:
وَهُوَ الْغَفُورُ الْوَدُودُ
And He is Oft-Forgiving, Full of love (Soorah Al Burûj 85:14)
Imam
as-Sa’di said: The subtly for “Full of love” being coupled with “Oft-Forgiving”
is to show the sinners if they repent to Allah, He will forgive them of their
sins and He will love them. Those who say the repentant sinners are forgiven
but the love does not return to them are incorrect.

share from this world is that he works for the Hereafter (Paradise).”

The
Character of Seeking Forgiveness
Allaah
Ta’ala says:
وَيَا قَوْمِ اسْتَغْفِرُوا
رَبَّكُمْ ثُمَّ تُوبُوا إِلَيْهِ يُرْسِلِ السَّمَاءَ عَلَيْكُم مِّدْرَارًا وَيَزِدْكُمْ
قُوَّةً إِلَىٰ قُوَّتِكُمْ وَلَا تَتَوَلَّوْا مُجْرِمِينَ.
“And O my people! Ask forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him, He will send you (from the sky) abundant rain, and add strength to your strength, so do not turn away as disbelievers in the Oneness of Allaah).” (Hood:52)
Al-Hafidh
Ibn Katheer -Rahimahullaah- said:
من اتصف بصفة الاستغفار يسر الله عليه رزقه وسهــل عليـه أمـره وحفظ عليه شأنه وقوته.
Whosoever
is characterised with seeking forgiveness, then Allaah makes his provision easy
for him, makes his matters easy for him and Allaah also protects his matters
and provisions.

وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَاءُ بَعْضٍ ۚ إِلَّا تَفْعَلُوهُ تَكُن فِتْنَةٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَفَسَادٌ كَبِيرٌ (73)
73. And those who disbelieve are
allies of one another, (and) if you (Muslims
of the whole world collectively) do not do so [i.e. become allies, as one
united block under one Khalifah (a chief Muslim ruler for the whole Muslim
world) to make victorious Allāh’s religion of Islāmic
Monotheism], there will be Fitnah (wars, battles, polytheism) and oppression on
the earth, a great mischief and corruption (appearance of polytheism).[1]

[1] (V.8:73) It has been mentioned in Tafsir At-Tabarī, that the best
interpretation of this Verse: - [“And those who disbelieve are
allies of one another, (and) if you
(Muslims of the whole world collectively) do not do so [i.e. become
allies, as one united block – V.8:73).”] is “That if you do not do what We (Allāh) have ordered you to do, [i.e. all of you (Muslims of the
whole world) do not become allies as one united block to make Allāh’s religion (Islām) victorious, there will be a
great Fitnah (polytheism, wars, battles, killing, robbing, a great mischief,
corruption and oppression.) And it is Fitnah to have many Khalifahs (Muslim
rulers), as it has been mentioned in Sahīh Muslim by ‘Arfajah, who said: I heard
Allāh’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم saying: “When you all (Muslims) are
united (as one block) under a single Khalifah (chief Muslim ruler), a man comes
up to disintegrate you and separate you into different groups, then kill that
man.”
Also
there is another narration in Sahih Muslim: Narrated by Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri رضي الله عنه: Allāh’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “If the Muslim world gave the
Bai’a (pledge) to two Khalifahs (chief Muslim rulers), the first one who has
given the Bai’a (pledge) first will remain as the Khalifah, then kill the
latter (the second) one.”
So it is a legal obligation, from the above-mentioned evident proofs (from the Qur’ān and the Prophet’s statement), that there shall not be more than one Khalifah (a chief Muslim ruler) for the whole muslim world or otherwise there will be a great Fitnah (mischief and evil.) amongst the Muslims, the ultimate results of which will not be worthy of praise.

Allāh forgives All Sins
وَمَن يَعْمَلْ سُوءًا أَوْ يَظْلِمْ نَفْسَهُ ثُمَّ يَسْتَغْفِرِ
اللَّهَ يَجِدِ اللَّهَ غَفُورًا رَّحِيمًا
“And whoever does evil or wrongs himself but afterwards
seeks Allāh’s Forgiveness, he will
find Allāh Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”
(Sūrah An-Nisā’: 110)
‘Abdullāh
Ibn ‘Abbās رضي الله عنهما said:
“Whoever
commits a sin, large or small, then seeks forgiveness from Allāh, he will find Allāh Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful; even if his sins were greater than the heavens, earth and
mountains.”
