From the signs of happiness & misery is that a person:

From the signs of happiness is that a person:

1. Desires good for the Muslims

2. Strives to direct them to guidance

3. Advises them

4. Conceals their faults & does not spread them

5. Does all of this seeking Allah’s Face.

Imām Sa’dī, Unity, p. 28.

From the signs of misery is that a person:

1. Endeavors to spread backbiting & tale-carrying among the people

2. Searches for faults

3. If they hear anything negative they spread it; they may even add commentary

4. They are the most evil of the people before Allah
