Be Good to Your
Father
On the authority of
Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar may Allāh be pleased with
him, who said that the Prophet ﷺ said:
The Pleasure of Allāh lies in the pleasure of the father and the Displeasure of
Allāh lies in the displeasure of the father.
Shaykh
Zayd Al-Madkhalī said:
In this Hadīth there is clarification of the displeasure of Allāh being brought about by the displeasure of the father for
his disrespectful child, male or female. This is only due to that which he (the
father) has from rights. The father was the means for the existence of the
child by way of seeking marriage with his/her mother. He is responsible for the
caretaking, and upbringing of the child within the cradle, in childhood, and
thereafter. The father cares for his child even when he becomes an adult. The
care for the childs never stops. Due to this, the Pleasure of Allāh is brought
about for the one who is good to his/her father and His displeasure is brought
about due to the disrespect of the child. Because the reward with Allāh will be
in proportion to the action. It is known that the father in his right mind will
be pleased by any act of kindness from his child, even it may be small.
