Al-I’TISAAM BIS-SUNNAH
Shaikhul-Islaam
Ibn Taymiyyah –rahimahullaah- said, as occurs in ‘Majmoo 'ul-Fataawaa’ (4/137):
“They used to say: Clinging to the Sunnah (al-I'tisaam
bis-Sunnah) is salvation.
Maalik –rahimahullaah- said: “The Sunnah is like the
Ark of Nooh: whoever embarks upon it will be saved, and whoever remains
apart from it will be destroyed;’ and this is true, for the Ark of Nooh
was only boarded by those who attested to the truthfulness of the Messengers,
and followed them; and those who did not board it had rejected the Messengers.
So following the Sunnah is to follow the Message which came
from Allaah.
So the one who follows it is just like one who boarded the
Ark along with Nooh, outwardly and inwardly; and the one who fails to
follow the Message is just like one who failed to follow Nooh –
'alaihis-Salaam, and failed to board the Ark along with him.”
