Al-Shāfi’ī said, “I never debated anyone who I
knew to be established upon innovation.”
Al-Bayhaqi, “That is because the one established upon bid’ah very
rarely returns from his bid’ah. Debating is with one who is hoped will return
when the truth is made clear to him.”
