Ibn al-Qayyim: Sins and Disobedience Give Birth to Calamities as Water Produces Crops and Fire Produces Burning.

From the Laws of Allāh in His Creation: Sins and Disobedience Give Birth to Calamities as Water Produces Crops and Fire Produces Burning

Ibn al-Qayyim (رَحِمَهُ اللهُ) said:

“Little success, corrupt opinion, unawareness of the truth, corruption of the heart, laziness in making remembrance, wasting time, the creation’s aversion (from a person), estrangement between the servant and his Lord, prevention of the supplication from being answered, hardness of the heart, termination of blessing from one’s provision and lifespan, prevention of knowledge, being covered in debasement, humiliation at the hands of the enemy, constriction of the chest, being put to trial by evil companionship who corrupt the heart and waste time, prolonged grief and sorrow, a wretched life of poverty, and a gloomy state of being are all produced from sins and neglecting to remember Allāh. [This is a law] just as crops are produced by water and burning by fire [through the ordainment of Allāh], then the opposites of the above mentioned things are produced through obedience to Allāh.”
