Shaykh Al-Fawzān حفظه الله said:
The more the tongue utters speech void of the remembrance of
Allāh, then the harder the heart becomes. Many people waste their time with gossip, with speech that contain no
benefit, and with laughter, play and heedlessness. Verily, this hardens the
heart.

الله عنها
that Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said, “Everyone of the children of Adam has been created with
three hundred and sixty joints; so he who declares the Glory of Allāh (i.e., saying Allāhu Akbar), praises Allāh (i.e., Al-hamdu lillāh),
declares Allāh to be One (i.e., Lā ilāha illallāh), glorifies Allāh, and seeks
forgiveness from Allāh (i.e., Astaghfirullāh), and removes stone, or thorn, or
bone from people’s path, and enjoins good and forbids evil, to the number of
those three hundred and sixty, will walk
that day having rescued himself from Hell.”

Abdullah
bin Busr رضي الله عنه said that a man asked the Prophet ﷺ, “O Messenger of Allāh! Verily, the sanctions of Islam have become too
numerous for me (to perform them all). Inform me of something (simple) that I
may always adhere to.” The Prophet ﷺ
said, “Let your
tongue always be moist with the remembrance of Allāh.”

An-Nawawi said:
This
day (the day of Arafah) is the best day
of the year for prayer, so it is necessary
that a person exhaust his effort
in dhikr, prayer and the recitation of the Qur’ān. And he should pray with the
various types of du’aa; he should pray for himself, his parents, his family,
his teachers, his companions, his friends, his beloveds, all those who did good
to him and the Muslims generally. And he should be careful; totally careful from being inadequate regarding all
of that. For indeed this day can not be attained again (once it is lost).

A Cure for the Hardness of the Heart
دَواءُ
قَــسْوَةِ القَــلْبِ قَـالَ العلّامــة ابنُ بـازٍ-رَحِمهُ الله: أحسن ما يُوصى به
لعلاج القلب وقسوتـه: العناية
بالقرآن
الكريـم، وتدبـره، والإكثار من تـلاوته، مع الإكثار من ذكـر الله عَـزّ وَجَـل
The best of what has
been advised with to cure the heart and the hardness of the heart is giving
attention to the Noble Qur'aan, reflecting upon it, reading it often and
remembering Allaah the Exalted and Glorious often.
فإن قـراءة القـرآن الكَــريم، بالتدبّر والإكْثَار من ذكـر الله، وقـول ”سبحان الله والحمد الله ولا إله إلا الله والله أكبر“ ، و ”سبحان الله وبحمده سبحان الله العظيم“ ، ” لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له له الملك وله الحمد يحيي ويميت وهو على كل شيء قدير“ ، كل هذه من أسباب إزالـة القسوة.
Reading Qur'aan with reflection and
remembering Allaah often, saying SubhaanAllaah walhamdulillah wa laa ilaaha
illAllaah wAllaahu akbar, and SubhaanAllaahi wa bihamdihi SubhaanAllaahil
Adheem, laa ilaaha illAllaah wahdahu laa shareeka lah lahulmulk walahul hamd
yuhyee wa yumeet wa huwa 'alaa kulli shayin qadeer. All of these are reasons
for the removal of the hardness of the heart.

“Indeed whenever I waver and become
indecisive in my mind about an issue, or about something or a situation [which
is problematic for me] then I seek
forgiveness from Allaah the Most High, a thousand times or more ,or less until
He opens my chest for me and solves the problem which I was confused about.
Even if at that time I was in a market place, or in a
masjid or in a mountain pass or a school, that does not prevent me from the
remembrance [of Allaah] and asking for forgiveness until I achieve my
objective.”
