Carrying out righteous deeds has a sweetness
and delight which the heart experiences. If the heart does not experience this
sweetness and delight then we must examine our hearts…
Haafidh
Ibn Rajab (d. 795 AH) رَحِمَهُ اللهُ mentioned:
“Eemaan
has a sweetness and a delight which is experienced and tasted with the heart,
just as the sweetness and delight of food and drink is tasted with the mouth.
For verily, eemaan is the nourishment of the heart and its sustenance, just as
food and drink is the nourishment of the body and its sustenance. And just as
the body will not find the sweetness of food and drink except when it is in
good health, and when it is sick it will not find the sweetness of that which
benefits it from that (food and drink), rather he may find delight in that
which is harmful to him and has no sweetness, due to him being overwhelmed by
the sickness.
Likewise
the heart will only find the sweetness of eemaan when it is safe from its
sicknesses and ailments. So when it is is safe from the sickness of misguided desires and prohibited lusts, it will then find and experience the sweetness of eemaan. And
when the heart is sick it will not taste and experience the sweetness of
eemaan, rather it will find delight in that which carries its destruction, from
desires and sins.”
