What
is Taqwā
‘Umar
b. ‘Abd al-‘Azīz (d.101H):
“Taqwā
(piety) is not to fast during the day and pray during the night whilst (at the
same time) mixing it with that which is forbidden. Rather, taqwā is to avoid
that which Allah – the Exalted – has prohibited and to act in accordance to
that which He has obligated. Whoever is granted an increase on those two
things has been granted goodness added to his goodness (that he already has).”

al-Manthūr (v. 1 pp. 62-63)]
