Ahmad b. al-Najmī (رَحِمَهُ
اللهُ) wrote:
“If you fast in this life, and accustom yourself to the
thirst and hunger out of obedience to your Lord; and abandon your desires in
obedience to Him (سُبْحَانَهُ
وَتَعَالَىَ), Allah will reward you on the Day of
Judgment. You shall be resurrected in a nourished state, while the rest of
mankind will be thirsty.
When the sun draws closer to their heads, with only a
distance of a mile, it will cause them to sweat. The disbeliever’s sweat will
reach his mouth until it covers him in totality – Allah’s refuge is sought –
but the believer will be shaded by (his) obedience to Allah.”
