Shaykh Muhammad bin Sālih al Uthaymeenرحمه الله mentions regarding fasting:
Fasting
was obligated from the second year after the Hijrah (the migration from Makkah
to Al-Madīnah).
So the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم fasted nine
years in total.
