Fasting
in Sha’bān
[Taken from Laṭā’if al-Ma’ārif (p. 138)]
Al-Ḥāfidh Ibn
Rajab (رَحِمَهُ اللهُ) said:
“Fasting in the month of
Sha’bān is a form of preparing [oneself] for fasting in Ramaḍān so that one
does not enter into the fasting of Ramaḍān upon
difficulty and hardship. Rather, he would have practiced fasting and become
accustomed to it and, thus, by fasting Sha’bān he would find the
sweetness and pleasure of fasting in his heart [as a result] enter into the
fasting of Ramaḍān with strength and energy.
Since Sha’bān is a form of introduction
for Ramaḍān, what has been legislated in Ramaḍān from fasting
and reciting the Qur’ān has,
likewise, been legislated in Sha’bān so that the person can
practice for Ramaḍān and train his soul upon the
obedience of ar-Raḥmān (the Most-Merciful).”
