Fasting in Sha’bān

Fasting in Sha’bān
[Taken from Laā’if al-Ma’ārif (p. 138)]

Al-āfidh Ibn Rajab (رَحِمَهُ اللهُ) said:

Fasting in the month of Shabān is a form of preparing [oneself] for fasting in Ramaān so that one does not enter into the fasting of Ramaān upon difficulty and hardship. Rather, he would have practiced fasting and become accustomed to it and, thus, by fasting Shabān he would find the sweetness and pleasure of fasting in his heart [as a result] enter into the fasting of Ramaān with strength and energy.

Since Shabān is a form of introduction for Ramaān, what has been legislated in Ramaān from fasting and reciting the Qurān has, likewise, been legislated in Shabān so that the person can practice for Ramaān and train his soul upon the obedience of ar-Ramān (the Most-Merciful).
