The Excellence of As-Salāt (The Prayer)

 .....

Abū Hurairah رضي الله عنه reported: I heard the Messenger of Allāh  ﷺ saying, “Say, if there were a river at the door of one of you in which he takes a bath five times a day, would any soiling remain on him?” They replied, “No soiling would left on him.” He ﷺ said, “That is the five (obligatory) Salāt (prayers). Allāh obliterates all sins as a result of performing them.” [Al-Bukhārī and Muslim]

Commentary: This Hadīth tell us about the merit and benefits of the performance of the prescribed five daily Salāt, performing them will wash off one’s sins, but this is true of only such Salāt which is performed in accordance with Sunnah, i.e., punctually in exactly the manner showed by the Prophet ﷺ, and not of that which is offered at will in one’s own way.

Anas bin Malik رضي الله عنه reported:

369. Anas bin Malik رضي الله عنه reported:

A bedouin came to Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and said to him, “When will be the Hour (i.e., the Day of Resurrection)?” He (the Prophet ﷺ) said, “What preparation have you made for it?” He said, “Only the love of Allāh and His Messenger.”Then Messenger of Allāh ﷺ  said, “You will be with those whom you love.”[Al-Bukhāri and Muslim]

The narration in Muslim is: The man replied: “I have made no significant preparation with regard to Salāh (prayer), Saūm (fasting) and Sadaqah (charity) but I love Allāh and His Messenger.”

Commentary: The love of the Companions  of the Prophet ﷺ for Allāh and His Prophet ﷺ was not verbal only, as is the case of present-day Muslims. Their love was full of obedience and submission to Allāh in the true sense. This is what the Bedouin mentioned in this Hadīth really meant when he said that he had not amassed a large treasure by way of Salāt, Saūm (fasts) and Sadaqah for presentation on the Day of Resurrection. What he meant by them was voluntary acts  and not the obligations. The reason being that the obligatory acts like Salāt , Saūm and Zakāt are incumbent on every Muslim and no one can claim to be a true believer and lover of Allāh and His Prophet ﷺ who ignores them. Any Muslim who entertains true love of Allāh and His Prophet ﷺ, makes  it evident in his practical life by his strict performance of the duties and obligations enjoined by Allāh and demonstrated by His Prophet ﷺ through his Sunnah. Even if such a person does not have to his credit a large amount of voluntary acts, he will be successful by Allāh. This is the real import of this Hadīth, otherwise a Muslim’s claim for the love of Allāh and His Prophet ﷺ will be void if he does not fulfill his religious obligations. In fact, without the fulfillment of religious obligations, his claim will be nothing short of self-deception. His claim for the love of Allāh and His Prophet ﷺ, which is not supported by his actions will carry no weight before Allāh.This is what the following Āyah of the Noble Qur’ān enjoins: “Say (O Muhammad ﷺ to mankind:) ‘If you (really) love Allāh then follow me (i.e., accept Islāmic Tauhid, follow the Qur’ān and the Sunnah), Allāh will love you and forgive your sins. And Allāh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.’” (3:31)

Observing the Sunnah and the Manners of its Obedience

157.’Irbā bin Sāriyah رضي الله عنه reported:

One day the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ delivered us a very eloquent Khutbah on account  of which eyes shed tears and hearts were full of tears. A man said: “O Prophet of Allāh, this is as if it were a parting advice. So advice us.” He ﷺ said, “I admonish you to fear Allāh , to listen  and obey even if an Abyssinian slave is appointed as your leader. Because  whoever among you shall live after me, will see much discord. So hold fast  to my Sunnah  and the examples of the Rightly-Guided Caliphs who will come after me. Adhere to them and hold to it fast. Beware of new things (in Deen) because every Bid’ah is a misguidance.” [Abū Dāwūd and At-Tirmidhī]

Commentary: This Hadīth stresses piety, obedience to the leader, following in the footsteps of the Prophet ﷺ and the first four noble caliphs. It strictly forbids innovation in Deen.

This Hadīth also reveals the prediction of the Prophet ﷺ that the Muslim Ummah will become a victim of dissension. He also prescribed the right means to counteract it. The remedy that he has proposed for this problem is that Muslims should never deviate from the path laid for them by him and his righteous successors. This is the touchtone for discovering the truth from the mess of different views. All the troubles of Muslims world would come to an end if they accept this as the one singular criterion of right and wrong.

The life of this world is sweet & green

Abū Sa’īd Al-Khudri رضي الله عنه reported:

The Prophet ﷺ said, “The life of the world is sweet and green. Allāh makes you generations succeeding one another so that He may try you in respect of your actions. So beware of the beguilements of the world and those of women. The first trial of Banu Isrāel was through women.” [Muslim]

Tremendous Overlooked Benefit of Dua’a

Tremendous Overlooked Benefit of Dua’a

Shaykh Uthaymeen said: Dua’a is worship which the person is rewarded for, each Dua’a is multiplied times ten, up to seven hundred times; if this was the only benefit of Dua’a it would suffice.

Importance Of Knowing the Names of The Scholars.

From The Saying Of Imaam An Nawawee Rahimahullaah

Imam an Nawawee said: The 1st thing a student should start with is memorization of the Glorious Quran. It is the most important knowledge.

(Source: Al Mejmoo’ Sharh al Muhathib)

Imam an Nawawee mentioned in one of his books, while discussing the importance of knowing the names of the scholars of the Salaf, he said:

From the importance (of knowing their names): They are our leaders and our Salaf, and they are similar to our parents. (They teach us) what is most beneficial for our next life; which is our final abode. They are the most sincere to us (in teaching) us what will benefit (our religion and worldly life). Indeed it is hideous that we are ignorant of them, and that we neglect learning about them.

The Amazing Final Two Verses of Al-Baqarah: Tremendous Benefits

The Amazing Final Two Verses of Al-Baqarah: Tremendous Benefits

“Whoever recites the two verses at the end of Sooratul-Baqarah in the night, they will suffice him.”

(Bukhaaree 5009, Muslim 808)

The sufficing here refers to the fact that they will protect him from evil and despised matters, and the Shaytaan will not approach him in the night, and he will be accredited with virtue and reward. And all of these are gathered from this narration.

O Son of Adam! When you wake up in the morning ALL of your limbs humble themselves daily, saying...

Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) said:

The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said,”When the son of Adam gets up in the morning, all the limbs humble themselves before the tongue and say:

‘Fear Allah for our sake because we are with you: (i.e., we will be rewarded or punished as a result of what you do) if you are straight, we will be straight; and if you are crooked, we will become crooked.”

[At-Tirmidhi]

Imam an-Nawawi commented: This Hadith shows the importance of guarding one’s tongue against that which is prohibited. Even the slightest carelessness on the part of the tongue can make all the organs suffer for it. Crookedness of the tongue means the careless use of the tongue which lands the whole body in trouble; and keeping  the tongue straight means keeping oneself safe from all kinds of troubles and ordeals.

The Permissible Types of Backbiting - Imaam an-Nawawee

Imaam an-Nawawee rahimahullaah says in his book ‘Riyaadus-Saalihen’

256 – Chapter: What is Permissible From [the types] of Backbiting

Know that backbiting is permissible if it is due to a valid reason approved by the Islamic legislation, and it is not able to be attained [i.e. the valid reason] except by way of backbiting.

[translators note: Meaning: That a person has no other choice but to backbite in each of the following cases].

And that is in six cases:

(1) Complaining about oppression.

So it is permissible for an oppressed person to complain to the ruler, and the judge, and other than them – from those that have authority, or ability -, to aid him against his oppressor. So he says: “So-and-so oppressed me with such and such.”

(2) Seeking somebody’s help in changing an evil, and correcting sinful affairs by changing them into that which is legislated and good.

So he says to a person who can help him in that: “So-and-so does such-and-such; so prevent him from that.” And the like of that. And one’s intent in this case should be to reach the goal of removing the evil – and if he intends other than that, then it is forbidden to do so.

(3) When seeking a verdict.

So a person says to the scholar: “My father, or my brother, or my partner, or so-and-so oppressed me; is that [oppression] permissible for him to do? And what can I do to end such, and regain my rights, and prevent any [further] oppression?” And the like of these questions. So this is permissible if there is a need – however that which is safer and better is that a person says: “What do you say regarding a man, or a person, or a partner, that does such-and-such?” Because that way the goal is attained without specifying who it is. Even still, it is permissible to specify; as we will make further mention of in the narration of Hind inshaaAllaah.

(4) Warning the Muslims from evil, and advising them.

And that is of various different types:

■ From them: Criticizing those who have been criticized from the narrators (in the chains of narration) and witnesses (in a court of law). And that is permissible according to the consensus of the Muslims. Rather it is obligatory if there is a need to do so.

■  And from them: Seeking advice when looking to get married to a person, or having shares with him (in a business etc), or when entrusting somebody with something (such as money, gold etc), or when dealing with someone, or other than that, or when looking to move in to a residence –a person asking regarding his prospective neighbors. And it is obligatory upon the one being asked that he does not hide anything regarding that person’s situation. Rather he mentions the negative points, with the intention of advising the questioner.

■   And from them: If he sees a person of knowledge and understanding of the religion who frequents an innovator, or an open sinner – and takes knowledge from them – and it is feared that the person of knowledge & understanding will be negatively affected. [In such a case] it is upon him to advise him by making clear [that person’s] situation; with the condition that his intention is to advise. And this is from the things that people fall into error regarding, so it may be the case that that which leads a person to do such [backbiting] is envy and animosity, and the devil disguises that to him, and makes him think that it is advice. So [a person should] take note and be shrewd regarding this.

■  And from them: That a person has a position of authority but he does not carry out that which is obligatory upon him; such as if he is inappropriate for that position (unqualified), or he transgresses the bounds of his authority (i.e. he takes advantage of his position of power), or he is negligent, and the like of that. In this case it is obligatory to inform the ruler so that he is removed from that position, and someone who is suitable is appointed in his place. Or he [the ruler] knows of his situation so that he can be dealt with accordingly, and so he [the ruler] is not deceived by him. Rather he [the ruler] strives to admonish him, and encourage him with being upright, or he changes him [for someone else that is suitable].

(5) That a person is open with regards to his sin, or his innovation.

Such as the one who openly drinks wine, or steals other people’s things, or takes taxes [from people’s wealth] oppressively, or he takes charge of affairs of falsehood (such as innovations etc) – in [the like] of these cases it is permissible to mention about him that which he does openly, and it is forbidden to mention other than that from [his] faults – except if there is another [valid] reason to mention them [from the other five points].

(6) For the sake of identification.

So if a person was well- known by a ‘nickname’ such as ‘al-A`mash’ (the one who has severely impaired vision), or by ‘al-A`raj’ (the one who walks with a limp), or by ‘al-Asamm’ (the one who is deaf), or by ‘al-A`maa’ (the one who is blind), or by ‘al-Ahwal’ (the one who is cross-eyed); and other than that [from the nicknames] then it is permissible to identify them with that. However it is forbidden to call a person with such nicknames if the intent is to lower them. And if it is possible to identify them with other than that, that is better and foremost.

So these aforementioned six reasons the scholars have mentioned; most of them are agreed upon [between the scholars]. And the proof for them are the famous narrations.

Do you want to achieve salvation? Look at what the Prophet peace be upon him advised...

‘Uqbah bin ‘Amir (May Allah be pleased with him) said: I asked the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him),

“How can salvation be achieved?” He replied, “Control your tongue, keep to your house, and weep over your sins.”

[At-Tirmidhi].

Imam an-Nawawi commented on this Hadith: It is better for one to spend his spare time at home in the remembrance of Allah, in the recitation of the Qur’an and the performance of acts of obedience, if one feels unable to benefit others or if one fears that he, as well as his religion will not be safe if one mixes with others. Allah greatly likes it that one repents of his own sins and weeps over them.
