The Eclipse is the Threat not the Punishment
Shaykh Uthaymeen رحمه الله:
The eclipse is not a punishment; rather
it is as the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم
said: “Allah frightens His slaves with it”. Thus it is a threat of punishments
and evil that will afflict them if they oppose His command and disobey Him.
