Shaykh
Ibn Uthaymeen –Rahimahullaah- said:
“Sometimes
that which is second best is contradicted and it becomes better than that which
is the best. For example: reading the Qur’aan is the best Dhikr, and the Qur’aan
is the best Dhikr, so if a person was reading the Qur’aan and heard the
Mu’adhdhin say the Adhan, is it better that he continues with his reading or
respond to the Mu’adhdhin?
Here
we say: Indeed it is better to respond to the Mu’adhdhin even though the Qur’aan
is better than Dhikr, however Dhikr in its correct
place is better than reading the Qur’aan because
reading the Qur’aan is not limited to a particular time, whenever you want you
can read the Qur’aan but
responding to the Mu’adhdhin is connected to hearing the Mu’adhdhin.”
