al-Tirmidhī pens the chapter:
“What has been Related Concerning the Prophet’s Haircare.” In it he collects
the narration of ‘Abd Allāh b. Mughaffal (رَضِيَ اللهُ عنهُ)
who said:
«نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ التَّرَجُّلِ إِلَّا غِبًّا»
“Allah’s Messenger prohibited the combing of the hair, unless it is done occasionally.”3
Regarding
the interpretation of this narration, al-Manāwī (رَحِمَهُ اللهُ)
states: “What is intended in the
prohibition is constant attention and focus upon it, because this is
excessiveness in beautification.”4
