Say, “O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allaah. Indeed, Allaah forgives all sins. Indeed, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (39: 53)

On the authority of Al-Baraa (رضي الله عنه), a man said  to him,

 

“O Abaa ‘Amārah, (regarding  the saying of Allaah),

‘And do not throw (yourselves) with your (own) hands into destruction’ (2:195)

 

Is this a man who meets the enemy (on the battlefield) and fights until he is killed)?”

 

He said,

 

“No, it is a man who commits a sin and says; Allaah will not forgive me.”
