What is The Noble Character Enjoined by the Qurʾān?
This is known by looking at the number of times the Qur’ān
mentions commended trait and qualities or enjoins them:
320x Mercy (raḥmah)
145x
Truthfulness (ṣidq)
090x Patience
(ṣabr)
042x
Pardon (‘afw)
042x
Generosity (karam)
040x
Trustworthiness (amānah)
025x Justice (ʿadl)
Hence, the three primary ingredients of a
Muslim character are that it is merciful, truthful and patient. Then an equal
mix of forgiving (pardoning), being generous and trustworthy. And then being
just in all dealings with all people without exception. Whoever is absent of
these qualities is remote and far from the Qur’ān to the extent of the absence of these qualities.
