The virtues of lā ilāha illā Allah, mentioned by Shaykh Ṣāliḥ al-Fawzān (حفظه الله)

THE STATUS OF LA ILAHA ILLA ALLAH

1. The Muslims proclaim it in their athan and iqamah, and mention it in their sermons and lessons.

2. It is a testimony by which the heavens and the earth were established and the entire creation was fashioned.

3. Because of it, Allah sent His Messengers, revealed His Books, and prescribed His Laws.

4. Due to it, the scales were appointed, the records were put forth, and the marketplace for Paradise and the Fire was established.

5. Creation was divided into the believers and the disbelievers. It is the purpose for the creation, commandment, reward and punishment.

6. It is the Truth for which the creation was created.

7. The questioning and reckoning of man will be about this testimony and its rights; and upon it, reward and punishment will be allocated.

8. Because of it, the qiblah was placed, the religion founded, and the swords of jihad were unsheathed.

9. It is Allah’s Right upon all the servants. It is the Statement of Islam and the Key to Dar as-Salaam (the Abode of Peace).

10. The feet of the slave shall cease to move from before Allah until he is questioned concerning two affairs : “Who did you worship?” and “How did you respond to the Messengers?”

The response to the first question is by fulfilling: “Laa ilaaha illa Allah” in knowledge, affirmation, and action.

And the response to the second question is by fulfilling: “Muhammad rasool Allah” in knowledge, submission and obedience.

11. It is the Word that seperates kufr from Islam.

12. It is the Word of Taqwa and the Urwatul-Wuthqa (the strongest handhold of Faith).

13. Ibraaheem made it a Word remaining among his descendants so that they may return to it.

14. It is a statement that Allah bears witness to Himself, the Angels, and the people of knowledge among His creation. [3:18].

15. It is a Statement of Sincerity, a Declaration of Truth, a Call of Truth, and a Dissociation from Shirk. It is the Purpose of Creation. “And I have not created mankind or jinn except to worship Me.”51:56.

16. Ibn ‘Uyaynah said: Allah has not favored the servant with a greater blessing than the knowledge of Laa ilaha illa Allah. Laa Ilaha Illa Allah to the People of Paradise, is like a cold water is to the people on Earth.

From Shaykh Saalih al Fawzaan’s Treatise on Laa Ilaaha Illa Allah.
