Do not speak unnecessarily; rather, be silent much.

 Ibrāhīm At-Taymī (d. 92H) said,

When a believer intends to speak, he first considers. So, if speaking is good for him, he speaks – and if it is bad for him, he refrains from it. As for the wicked evildoer, his tongue is loose and unfettered.
