Why
We Focus on al-Tawhīd
Ibn
al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (رحمه الله)
states: “Every Sūrah (chapter)
in the Qur’an consists of al-Tawhīd. Rather,
we say, every verse in the Qur’an consists of al-Tawhīd, evincing it and calling
to it. As the Qur’an either details Allah’s Names, Attributes, and Actions, which
is al-Tawhīd al-‘Ilmī, al-Khabrī; or
it calls to His worship Alone, without ascribing partners to Him, and
renounces the worship of anything besides Him, and that is al-Tawhīd al-Irādī, al-Talabī; or it commands [good] or
forbids [evil], and these are the rights of al-Tawhīd; or it informs of Allah’s
Generosity to the people of Tawhīd
and obedience, His dealings with them in the worldly life, and His blessings
awaiting them in the afterlife, and this is the reward of al-Tawhīd; or
it informs of the people of Shirk,
and His punishment of them in this life and severe torment He has prepared for
them in the next. This concerns the one who violates His Tawhīd. Thus, the whole of the
Qur’an pertains to Tawhīd: its
rights and its reward,as well as the evil affair of Shirk, its people, and their
recompense.”
