Characteristics of a Student of Knowledge: The Great Honour & Modesty of Imām Ahmad..In our time Ignorant of No knowledge desire Nobility!

On one occasion Imām Ahmad went to the market of Baghdād, and he bought a bundle of wood and placed it upon his shoulders (and started making his way out), when the people realized who he was, the ones with businesses left their businesses, and the shopkeepers left their shops, and passers-by stopped… all giving Salam to Imām Ahmad, and they began to say, “We’ll carry the wood for you!”, and so he shook his hand at them and his face reddened, and his eyes welled with tears, and he said, “We are a miskeen people (referring to himself from great modesty and humbleness), and was it not from the concealment of Allah we would’ve been exposed”.

Shaykh Muḥammad Nāṣir-ud-Dīn al-Albānī's ultimate goal in life...

Shaykh Muḥammad Nāṣir-ud-Dīn al-Albānī رحمه الله  said:

“In reality, indeed my ultimate goal in [this] life – after implementing the obligations and rights which Allāh has bestowed upon me – is to familiarize the Muslims by teaching, lecturing, and authoring – with the complete and authentic life of the Prophet (ﷺ) in all aspects; according to my ability. In addition,  [it is] to encourage them to take him (ﷺ) as the single example as Allāh – The Most High – has instructed in His statement:

لقد كان لكم في رسول الله أسوة حسنة لمن كان يرجو الله واليوم الآخرة

“Indeed in the Messenger of Allāh (Muḥammad ﷺ) you have a good example to follow for he who hopes to meet Allāh and the next life”[1]

In this lies their happiness in this life and the next.”[2]

Prophet (ﷺ): “Whoever performs ghusl perfectly on a Friday...

Prophet (ﷺ): “Whoever performs ghusl perfectly on a Friday, leaves out & arrives early, he walks & does not ride, he sits close to the imām, he listens & does not speak or fidget: for every step there is for him a reward of a year’s fasting & night prayer.”

Ibn Mājah 1087, Sahīh

Fidget definition: to make continuous, small movements that annoy other people. This indicates a lack of concentration, that one is not listening to the khutbah or paying attention to it. Talking during the khutbah is prohibited, and this includes phonecalls and texting!

Shaykh Abdullah Bukhari regarding the etiquettes of listening to the Khutbah from the explanation of Umdatul Ahkaam.

Some points taken from Shaykh Abdullah al Bukhari’s explanation of the following Hadeeth during his Explanation of ‘Umdatul Ahkaam:

Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger ﷺ as saying:

“If you ask your companion to be quiet on Friday while the Imam is delivering the sermon, you have in fact talked irrelevance.”[Muslim 851]

The Shaykh mentioned that the word in the hadeeth (لَغَوْتَ), the origin of it being لَغَى يَلْغُو، لَغْوًا،  has many meanings according to the scholars of the Arabic language. From them:

• Evil speech
• That which has no good within it
• Speech that isn’t befitting
• Failure
• A saying that diverts one from the truth

• The most correct , and the opinion of the majority of the people of knowledge, is that listening to the Khutbah is Waajib and speaking during it is Haraam. The evidences for this are many from the Qur’aan and Sunnah.

• It is permissible for the ones present to speak to the Khateeb if there is a need. From the evidences of this is the hadeeth of the Bedouin who entered the masjid whilst the Prophet ﷺ was giving the sermon and he mentioned their wealth, crops etc being ruined due to drought and asked the Prophet ﷺ to supplicate for rain. The scholars have said that the Prophet ﷺ didn’t reprimand him for speaking which is a proof that it’s permissible due to a need.

• The Shaykh also mentioned that if we notice a person talking during the Khutbah then we indicate to him to be silent by putting our hands to our mouths or fingers to lips or other such gestures which indicate silence. From among the proofs for this is the hadeeth of Anas (radiyallahu anhu) narrated by Ibn Khuzaymah in his Saheeh where a man entered the masjid whilst the Prophet ﷺ was on the pulpit on Friday and he asked when is al Saa’ah (Day of Judgment) so the people gestured to him to be silent. So the man repeated the question three times , and the people kept on gesturing to him to be silent. After the 3rd time the Prophet ﷺ said “Woe be to you, what have you prepared for it?...”. Al Nawawi, Ibn al Mulaqqin and others have authenticated the hadeeth.

• It has been authentically narrated that Ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu anhu) threw stones at such an individual to gain his attention, then gestured to him to be silent by placing his hand on his mouth.

• The Shaykh mentioned that it is permissible to speak when the Khateeb has appeared up until he starts  the Khutbah, and it is permissible to speak once the Khateeb has finished the Khutbah until he begins the salah and this is the opinion of the majority of Ahlil ‘ilm.

• It is also permissible to speak between the two khutbahs, especially if there is need. But if there isn’t such a need then it is isn’t befitting for one to speak.

• Imaam ibn al Mundhir mentioned in al-Awsat that responding to the salaam is done by gesturing, and, responding to the one who said “ Alhamdulillah” after having sneezed, is done after the Khutbah has finished.

• The Shaykh mentioned that it is better to send salutations and blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ once the Khutbah has finished as mentioned by Imaam ibn al Mundhir and that if one does during the Khutbah, it is permissible; the scholars mentioning that it should be done with a lowered voice so others don’t hear and are distracted by it.

And Allah knows best

THE MOST AMAZING OF THE CREATION IN EEMAAN

From Anas  -radiyallaahu ‘anhu- who said:

The Prophet ﷺ said:

<<Which of the creation are most amazing in Eemaan?>>

They said: “The Angels”.

He said: <<The angels –how could they not  have Eemaan?!>>

They said: “The Prophets.”

He said: <<The Prophets  have Revelation sent to them: how could they not have Eemaan?!>>

They said: “The Companions.”

He said: <<The Companions are along with the Prophets, so how could they not have Eemaan?! Rather the people most amazing in Eemaan are a people who will come after you, and who will find a book of the Revelation. So they will have Eemaan in it follow it, so they are the most amazing of the people –(or: the creation)- in Eemaan.>>

Destroy the books of innovation

Shaykhul Islam Ibn al Qayyim رحمه الله  said “And what is intended , is that these books which contain lies and innovation, it is a must that they be destroyed and demolished, (and doing that with) these is foremost over destroying bottles of intoxicants; This is because their harms (i.e. these books) are greater than the harms of those . Likewise, one is not held liable (i.e. for destroying these books) just as one is not held liable for breaking the bottles of intoxicants and ripping the (leather) skins that contain it.”
