Sadness that Hits You and You Don't
Know the Reason
Ibn Taymiyah said:
Sufyān Ibn ‘Uyaynah
was asked about sadness that afflicts a person and he doesn’t know the reason.
He replied: “That is due to a sin
which you contemplated doing but didn’t; you were given, as a recompense for
it, sorrow.”
Shaykh Al-Islām said: “Sins have punishments. That which is done secrectly (is
punished) secretly and that which is done openly (is punished) openly.”
