From the signs of a good ending is dying upon a righteous deed | Trans by Ustaadh Anwar Wright (hafidhahullaah)

From the signs of a good ending is dying upon a righteous deed

Whoever says Lā ilāha illa Allāh seeking with this the Face of Allah and he ends (i.e. dies) upon that he will enter Jannah, and whoever fasts a day seeking with this the Face of Allah and he ends upon that he will enter Jannah, and whoever gives Sadaqah seeking with this the Face of Allah and he ends upon that, he will enter Jannah.

Safety from Fitan (Trials) - Imām ibn Bāz (رحمه الله)

Safety from Fitan

Imām ibn Bāz (رحمه الله) said:

“…thus the trials, the trials of shahawāt (desires) and shubuhāt (doubts) and fighting and the trials of innovations, all of the types of trials, there is no escape from them nor safety except by way of gaining understanding of the book of Allāh and the Sunnah of his Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم), and knowing the manhaj of the Salaf of this Ummah from the Companions (رضي الله عنهم) and those who traversed their way from the scholars of Islām and the callers to guidance.”

The Most Comprehensive Du'a By Shaikh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-Uthaymeen [d. 1421H].

The great scholar Muhammad bin Salih al-Uthaymeen –rahimahullaah- said:

‘From the most comprehensive of what you can supplicate with is what is mentioned in the hadeeth of Anas -RadhiAllaahu anhu- that the Prophet   would say this a lot in his dua’:

رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَة وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ
حَسَنَة وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

‘Rabbanaa aatina fid-Dunyaa hasanah wa fil aakhira(ti) hasanah wa qinaa adhaab an-Naar’

‘O our Lord give us goodness in this world and goodness in the Hereafter and save us from the punishment of The Fire.’ Since indeed this dua’ is the most comprehensive of all dua’.

‘O our Lord give us goodness in this world’

Includes all the goodness of the Duniya:

• from having a righteous wife
• comfortable transport
• tranquil home
• as well as other matters.

Includes all the goodness of the Hereafter:

• from an easy reckoning
• Being given your record of deeds in the right hand
• Easily passing over the Siraat (bridge)
• drinking from the lake of the Messenger
• entry into Paradise
• as well as other matters from the goodness of the Hereafter.

So this Dua is from the most comprehensive of supplications rather it is the most comprehensive because it is inclusive and complete.

The pen is lifted for six hours

The Messenger of Allāh () said:

“The companion (Angel) on the left lifts his pen for six hours for the Muslim Slave that errs or sins. If this slave repents and seeks Allāh’s forgiveness for that error or sin, the Angel doesn’t record it. And if the slave doesn’t ask Allāh for forgiveness, the angel records it once.”

Fudayl bin ‘Iyaad’s Advice to a 60-Year Old Man

Fudayl bin ‘Iyaad’s Advice to a 60-Year Old Man

Fudayl Ibn ‘Iyaad رحمه الله said to a man: “How many (years) have come upon you?”

The man said: “60 years”.

Fudayl said: “So since 60 years you are heading toward your Lord, and you are on the verge of arriving”.

So the man said: “Indeed to Allah we belong and indeed to Him we return”.

Fudayl said: “Do you know the meaning of that?” You are saying that I am a servant of Allah and to Him I will return, so whomsoever knows he is a servant of Allah, and that to Him he will return, then let him be aware that he will stand before Him, and whomsoever is aware that he will stand before Him then let him be aware that he will be questioned, and whomsoever is aware he will be questioned then let him prepare an answer to the question”.

So the man said: “So what is the strategy?”

Fudayl said: “Easy”.

The man said: “What is it?”

Fudayl said: “Be righteous in what remains and you will be forgiven for what has passed, for indeed of you incur evil in what remains (i.e. no repentance and continuation upon wrong doing) then you will be held accountable upon it and that which has passed”.

A True Student of Knowledge!

Imām Adh-Dhahabi 13/292 mentioned: “Baqiyah Ibn Makhlad traveled by foot from Andalusia (Spain) to Baghdād (Irāq) in order to meet Imām Ahmad – Rahimahullah so as to study at his hands. Baqiyah said: “So when I drew close to Baghdād  the news of Imām Ahmad being put to trial reached me, I had heard that he had been prevented from having gatherings with  people and teaching them, so this distressed me greatly. When I arrived in Baghdād, I placed my possessions in a room and then went out seeking the abode of Imām Ahmad Ibn Hanbal, I was shown his home and went and knocked the door ,  Imām Ahmad himself opened, so I said: “Oh Abā Abdillah! (I am) a man from a strange land and a seeker of Hadeeth, and one who scribes the sunnah and my journey was not except to you.

So he said to me: “Enter the house and let no one see you! He questioned me and said: “I am under trial and have been prevented from teaching and educating.”

So I said to him: “I am a stranger (to these lands) so if you permit, I will come to you in the garments of a poor beggar, and stand at your door asking for charity and aid, then you come out to me and narrate to me even if it is one Hadeeth.

Baqiyah said: “So I used to come everyday and stand at the door and I would say: “An offering, May Allah show you mercy! So Ahmad used to come to me and enter me into the passageway and narrate to me two or three Hadeeth or more until I had collected some 300 Hadeeth.

Then Allah lifted the trial from Imām Ahmad and his mention had become widespread. Whenever I would visit him after that, while he was in a huge circle and students of knowledge  were around him, he would open a space for me and bring me close to him and say to the companions of Hadeeth:

“Here is one who deserves the title ‘Student of knowledge!”

Going for Umrah? From the Guidance of the Salaf is Striving to Complete the Qur'an while in Makkah

Abū Bakr narrated from Jarīr who narrated from Mansūr who reported from Ibrahīm that he said:

They (the Salaf) would like that if they entered Makkah for Hajj or Umrah that they would not depart from there until they completed therein the recitation of the Qur’an.

One of the signs that Allāh doesn't want good for a person

Shaikh Ibn Bāz, may Allāh have mercy on him, said:

One who turns away from [gaining] understanding of the religion [of Islām], that is [one] of the signs that Allāh does not want good for him, and there is no ability or power to change a situation except by Allāh.

Benefits derived from the story of Yusuf (‘alayhi as-salam) - Shaykh ‘Allama AbdurRahman bin Nasr as-Sa’adi (رحمه الله) by Miraath Publications

In the story of Yusuf, there are various signs and lessons for everyone who asks, and desires guidance and direction. The story details his transition from one state to another, from trial after trial, humiliation and imprisonment, to honour and ruling over a kingdom, from being separated and alone to being united and achieving goals, from sadness and grief to delight and happiness, from ease to poverty and poverty to ease, and from being constrained to being free. There are many other things which this great story includes, so praise be to The One Who narrated it, clarified it and explained it.

Chapter 7: The Soul Inclines Towards Evil

The saying of Allaah Ta’ala:

إِنَّ النَّفْسَ لَأَمَّارَةٌ بِالسُّوءِ إِلَّا مَا رَحِمَ رَبِّي

<< Verily, the (human) self is inclined to evil, except  when my Lord bestows His Mercy (upon whom He wills).>>70

This evidence for the description  of the essence of the soul – it does not  leave this description of inclining towards evil except with  Allaah’s mercy  and  concern from Him, because the soul is oppressive and ignorant. Nothing comes from oppression and ignorance except every evil. Therefore, if Allaah has mercy on His slave and blesses him with beneficial knowledge and makes him follow a path of justice in his manners and his actions, then his soul loses this description, finds tranquility in the obedience of Allaah and His remembrance and does not command its companion except to do good, and this leads to the grace of Allaah and His reward.

Allaah Ta’ala said:

يَٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفْسُ ٱلْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ ()
ٱرْجِعِىٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَّرْضِيَّةً ()
فَٱدْخُلِي فِي عِبَٰدِي ()
وَٱدْخُلِي جَنَّتِي ()

<< (It will be said to the pious): ‘O (you) the one in (complete) rest  and satisfaction! ‘Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! ‘Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, “And enter you My Paradise!’>>71

Therefore, it is upon the slave of Allaah to work on himself to rectify his soul, and to take this despised characteristics out of it, which is that the soul inclines towards evil. This is done by striving  and having the best of manners, asking Allaah to be continuous upon that and repeating the following narrated supplication plentifully:

‘O Allaah guide me to the best of actions and manners, no-one guides to the best of them except You, and turn me away from evil actions and evil manners no-one  can turn me away from their evil except You.’72

What the Prophet ﷺ Did When He Heard Music

Shaikh ʿAlī al-addādī, may Allāh protect him, said:

From Nāfiʿ [who] said: Ibn ʿUmar heard the sound of a wind instrument.

[Nāfiʿ then] said: Then he  put his two fingers in his ears and moved away from the pathway and [after some time] said to me: O Nāfiʿ, do you hear anything?

[Nāfiʿ] said: Then I said no.

[Nāfiʿ then] said: So he removed his two fingers  from his ears and said: I was with the Prophet [when] he heard  something similar to this and acted in a similar  way.”

Abū Dawūd narrated it, and Al-Albānī rated it “aī [authentic].

O Son of Adam! When you wake up in the morning ALL of your limbs humble themselves daily, saying...

Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) said:

The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said,”When the son of Adam gets up in the morning, all the limbs humble themselves before the tongue and say:

‘Fear Allah for our sake because we are with you: (i.e., we will be rewarded or punished as a result of what you do) if you are straight, we will be straight; and if you are crooked, we will become crooked.”

[At-Tirmidhi]

Imam an-Nawawi commented: This Hadith shows the importance of guarding one’s tongue against that which is prohibited. Even the slightest carelessness on the part of the tongue can make all the organs suffer for it. Crookedness of the tongue means the careless use of the tongue which lands the whole body in trouble; and keeping  the tongue straight means keeping oneself safe from all kinds of troubles and ordeals.

During Fitna it is obligatory upon the ignorant to remain silent

Shaykh Fawzan:

When fitna occurs; it is obligatory upon the ignorant to remain silent. They must not say anything which will harm their religion or harm their community. It is obligatory upon them to remain silent and to remove themselves from the Fitna and they must not participate in it.
