Our Shaykh Muqbil Ibn Hadi - رحمه الله - on Seeking Beneficial Knowledge

Our Shaykh, the Muaddith of the lands of Yemen, Muqbil ibn Hādī al-Wad’ī on Seeking Beneficial Knowledge
Translated by Abū al-asan Mālik Ādam al-Akhar

Our Shaykh Muqbil ibn Hādī al-Wad’ī  رحمه الله said:

”So indeed, I advise anyone who has been granted understanding and hopes that Allāh عز و جل  will  benefit by him  Islām and the Muslims and honors Allāh’s religion, not to allow the pursuit of [university] degrees to avert him from seeking beneficial knowledge.  For how many people have a doctorate degree in Islamic Fiqh and have fiqh of nothing? And how many people have a degree in adīth and do not understand a adīth? Thus, these degrees allow scores of people to obtain positions they do not deserve. So how does the title “Dr.” benefit you, and you are ignorant of Allaah’s legislation?” [1]
